Dynasties is an incredibly well made documentary mini-series featuring engaging storylines with the animals and with only 5 episodes, this is worth binge-watching over the course of a day.
Aquaman is an outrageously fun superhero movie that might not break new ground in terms of story, it does introduce audiences to a relatively unexplored world. Jason Momoa was the perfect casting of a character that was once a joke.
When I last saw Lord of War 13.5 years ago, I wasn’t completely enamored beyond the acting and… my opinion roughly remains the same, some solid performances though I guess I was more engrossed with the story this go around.
Mortal Engines is to say the least imperfect and I suppose even disappointing considering Peter Jackson was involved as a producer and co-screenwriter, and indeed it’s not very well written and yet I did find myself relatively entertained.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is another lackluster movie of this new franchise that, especially when we go to Hogwarts for a short time, made me wish I was watching the Harry Potter franchise instead of this one.
There’s no doubt Queen is a true hall of fame band and Freddie Mercury a transformative musician, but this bio-pic, while well produced and finely acted, feels a bit sterilized relaying Mercury’s life but keeping it within the PG-13 realm.
Creed II is another brilliant entry into the Rocky franchise and features a great performance from Michael B. Jordan with some solid work by Sylvester Stallone and Tessa Thompson.
Robin Hood is hardly a terrible movie, it did have some passion behind-the-scenes and I did genuinely like Jamie Foxx as John, but most everything else makes you wonder: what’s the point of a big budget movie like this?
A Star is Born is a well made music-drama and although I can’t compare it to the other versions, I thought this one had some great music to go along with solid performances from Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in her feature film debut.
Mary Queen of Scots is certainly a rich movie in terms of the technical aspects including costumes, hair/makeup and set designs, and while both Ronan and Robbie’s performances were great, the story in of itself lacked much of an emotional punch.
Overlord is one hell of a thrill ride that combined World War II drama (with respect if not historic flexibility) and zombie horror and the combination was a lot of fun thanks to creative direction and a charismatic ensemble cast.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is hardly terrible and I’d happily watch this over either of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland live-action films, but considering I hated both of those, that’s faint praise.
Reign of the Supermenmight not be a strong follow up to The Death of Superman and probably middle of the pack amongst the others within the connected DC Animated Universe, but it is pretty entertaining with some great animation.
First Man might not be the best movie about space exploration around but it is still a well made drama from Damien Chazelle in a solid follow-up to his Academy Award winning music-drama, La La Land. Ryan Gosling gives a nice, if not quiet, performance.
Night School is just a poorly made comedy, one which I did not laugh once and goes to show perhaps Kevin Hart’s limitations when he doesn’t have the right director, material and even ensemble cast to work off of.
