Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix isn’t great but still quite good and highly entertaining, excelling due to its amazing ensemble cast as we see the young ones grow up right before our eyes.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the type of movie one can admire the technical aspects more so than the story or characters, but that admiration only goes so far. Like The Hobbit before, this just seems like a needless spin-off and I cannot imagine how the material can be stretched into a sequel let alone FOUR more.
Six is a well made mini-series featuring well choreographed war-time fight sequences and respectable performances top-lined by character actor Walton Goggins.
Demon Seed is more goofy than scary (but that might be how it was meant to be) but still is rather entertaining and in keeping with a film from the mid-70s.
Rogue One is a solid entry into the Star Wars saga and while it’s not as strong as either the Original Trilogy or The Force Awakens both in story structure and characters, it’s still one hell of an entertaining sci-fi action-er especially a fantastic third act which more than makes up for its flaws.
Star Trek Voyager was a great show in the Trek universe though probably doesn’t get the same love as compared with the original series or The Next Generation, but it was still an entertaining series featuring a solid cast.
This 1984 Red Dawn is no doubt a silly movie with Cold War fear-mongering at the forefront, but I’d be lying if I didn’t have fun watching especially with this who’s who cast from the era.
Arsenal is the type of movie that makes you wonder who exactly is financing it with a bad script and a so-so performance by its lead actor. The only redeeming value, if you can call it that, is seeing Nic Cage doing vintage Nic Cage who is wildly hilarious.
Batman: The Brave and the Bold was a fantastic and incredibly fun show displaying the light-hearted side of DC Comics and often a callback to the old Super Friends animated series from the 1970s.
Interiors is the latest of the, at least to me, obscure Woody Allen films to find their way onto Blu-ray. The film itself is fine headlined by some fine performances and at least a compelling enough story.
20th Century Women is a fine ensemble drama with some great performances, namely by Annette Bening and Greta Gerwig with a compelling enough story. The Blu-ray released by Lionsgate offers up good video and audio transfers and some so-so bonus material.
Assassin’s Creed, from the standpoint of someone who is not a gamer, actually wasn’t a bad movie, flawed for sure, but still decent enough mainly for Michael Fassbender more so than the plot, which was at times confusing, or the writing.
Hyperdimension Neptunia is your typical Japanese anime series with your usual designs and humor, but I did find somewhat entertaining for what it is. This Complete Series set, through FUNimation’s S.A.V.E. line, offers good video/audio transfers while the features are, to say the least, light.
Live by Night was Ben Affleck’s passion project that, ironically, lacked a whole lot of passion on screen mixed in with a hodgepodge of a plot, far too many side characters and performances that didn’t quite connect on screen despite the talent assembled.
Baby Boom was one of many working woman movies of the mid-to-late 80s but does feature a wonderful performance by Diane Keaton and it’s never a bad thing to see Harold Ramis.
