You’re enjoyment for Killing Hasselhoff depends on a couple things: one is if you have any interest in “The Hoff” (which I don’t) or like Ken Jeong’s style of humor (again, which I don’t), thus this was a tough sit through as most of the humor didn’t really land very well.
This fourth season of The Originals is, for me, more of the same. Some of the stories aren’t terribly compelling (so to speak) but I still enjoy Joseph Morgan’s Klaus character and at least the season is watchable.
Chuck is a run-of-the-mill boxing drama that features some solid performances headlined by Liev Schreiber, Elisabeth Moss and Jim Gaffigan, though in Schreiber’s case, it’s amazing the work he was able to do with the amount of make-up caked on his face…
Finally after all these years, all 4 seasons of The Secret Life of Alex Mack is available and while the show is cheesy, it’s still entertaining for what it is. On the downside there are no bonus material and the video/audio transfers are both substandard but with a low SRP, to the point you’ll be able to pick this up on the cheap.
This 2005 TV adaptation of The Poseidon Adventure is pretty awful. Not only is the acting bad, I honestly expected a bit more from Rutger Hauer and even Peter Weller, it’s a story stretched across 170+ minutes, it is quite tedious to sit through.
The Zodiac Killer is a movie where how it was made was far more interesting than the movie itself, which is just plain bad but with some unintentionally funny scenes here and there, at least when not involving scenes depicting the Zodiac’s real victims.
The Hunter’s Prayer isn’t exactly a memorable suspense-drama or anything and Sam Worthington doesn’t exactly turn in a strong performance, meaning par for the course for the actor, but I did think the young Odeya Rush was a standout and I was moderately entertained.
Kill Switch might be, on paper, an interesting concept but by going with the first person shooter route and you actually distance yourself with the main character as played by Dan Stevens and at that point you couldn’t care less about his situation.
Once Upon a Time in Venice doesn’t quite work either as crime or comedy, but I have to admit to chucking a few times here and there and can appreciate the cast, though the likes of John Goodman and Famke Janssen were underutilized.
As someone in his mid-30s now, and with no kids, a movie like Descendants 2 isn’t exactly aimed at me, now if this were a sequel to the Alexander Payne drama that might be a different story…
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword actually isn’t a terrible movie and yet, a couple problems: 1. There really is a need for yet another adaptation, even one that incorporates more mystical elements, 2. Guy Ritchie’s style doesn’t quite gel with the material and 3. Charlie Hunnam doesn’t nearly have enough charisma to carry this movie.
Going in Style is a light-hearted but incredibly fun, and oft funny, movie that excels almost entirely on the cast charms and chemistry with one another as Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Alan Arkin work so well off one another, even when the script isn’t all that creative.
Britney Ever After is, to put it bluntly, awful movie which should come to no surprise since it is a Lifetime Original Movie, but I suppose if you watch this with a group of friends, could make for a fun MST3K-like party.
Ronin is a fantastically slow burning yet still suspense-filled crime drama, a call back to the 60s and 70s preferring realistic car chases, not unlike Bullitt and The French Connection.
Re-Animator is a fun horror-comedy from the mid-80s, with enough blood to satisfy gore-hounds, and receives a nice upgrade over its 2012 Blu-ray stocked full of wonderful extras, a few new to this release from Arrow Video, and offering up excellent video and audio transfers.
