Shazam: Fury of the Gods 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Review

Shazam: Fury of the Gods is a perfectly entertaining time-waster (frankly, not unlike Black Adam) but it does lack the charm of its predecessor, however Zachary Levi still is great in the lead.

A Quiet Place Part II 4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray Review

A Quiet Place Part II might not be as good as its predecessor but I still would say it’s worth a watch as there are some moments of suspense even when characters make questionable decisions.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: 2-Movie Collection 4K Ultra HD Review

This 2-Movie Collection of Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life are the same two discs from the individual 4K releases, sans the Blu-rays which contained most of the bonus features.

Gladiator: 20th Anniversary Edition 4K Ultra HD Review

Gladiator is a tremendous movie that still holds up so well after all of these years, and this coming someone who really didn’t fully appreciate it upon its initial theatrical release. Seeing the “Extended Edition” version for a second time and thought it was remarkable.

Shazam! 4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray Review

Shazam might not be a top tiered superhero movie and not near my personal top even amongst DC’s lineup, but it is still a lot of fun and Zachary Levi embodies the role so well and can’t wait to see what he and director Sandberg have in store.

Captain Marvel Blu-ray Review

Captain Marvel has a flawed even messy plot yet I did find some entertainment value, mostly with Samuel L. Jackson, the de-aging effects and the visual effects as a whole, and while Brie Larson doesn’t quite shine my hope is she gets something to work with on the eventual sequel.

Beauty Shop Blu-ray Review + Screen Caps

With the success of the Barbershop movies, and with at the time Queen Latifah’s growing fame following her Academy Award nomination for her supporting role in Chicago, it’s no surprise there would be a spin-off with Beauty Shop which had a good heart at its core.

Push 4K Ultra HD + BD Screen Caps

Push is a movie that was less disappointing, mainly because I had no expectations either way, and more in the line of wasted opportunities. In any case, I did enjoy certain parts of the film, just not enough as a full recommendation.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life 4K Ultra HD

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life is a half-baked and poorly made sequel that lacked the fun and thrills of the first film though Angelina Jolie appeared to give it her all, or at least her stunt double did, but the action itself was lackluster outside of the opening action sequence.

Review: King Arthur: Legend of the Sword 4K/BD + Screen Caps

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword actually isn’t a terrible movie and yet, a couple problems: 1. There really is a need for yet another adaptation, even one that incorporates more mystical elements, 2. Guy Ritchie’s style doesn’t quite gel with the material and 3. Charlie Hunnam doesn’t nearly have enough charisma to carry this movie.

Review: The Legend of Tarzan 3D BD + Screen Caps

The Legend of Tarzan is hardly horrible and yet it’s also nothing special in spite of some nice work by the visual effects crew and some ernest performances by Skarsgard and, to a lesser extents Robbie and Jackson while Waltz proves once again as a serviceable villain.

Review: The Vatican Tapes BD + Screen Caps

The Vatican Tapes is the latest of the poorly made exorcism/possession films. Is it the worst of the bunch? Not quite but considering at least a respectable enough cast, and a lead actress who could have a future, it was still in some sense disappointing.

Amistad Blu-ray Review

Amistad is another well made film from Steven Spielberg and features several good performances including Morgan Freeman, Djimon Hounsou and Matthew McConaughey who reminds you he’s always had the dramatic acting chops…
