The Final Word on Physical Media
The Crucifixion is, plainly, not a good movie and deservedly will get lost with the numerous others of the possession-horror subgenre though if I had anything positive to say, Sophie Cookson actually wasn’t half bad considering the dull plot and poor writing.
The most intriguing aspect of Steven Soderbergh’s latest heist film, Logan Lucky, was who exactly wrote it as “Rebecca Blunt” apparently doesn’t exist. Beyond that, the crime and comedy aspects didn’t appeal to me at all and I found the film to be a bit dull at times.
The Hitman’s Bodyguard is a bit uneven in terms of both the action and comedy, but with the dynamic between Reynolds and Jackson, it’s hard not to have a good time with the excessive violence and language, though the film hardly breaks new ground for the mixed-genre.

Gidget is a fun little 1950s-era tween romance-comedy that excels with the spunky and charismatic performance by Sandra Dee whose career never really took off.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone might not be perfect, it was however the perfect way to introduce audiences to this world and characters we would follow for the next several years. Even so, I was thoroughly entertained and they really did a great job casting the three unknowns and surrounding them with some excellent talent.

Darkness Rising was an all around bad experience and normally I’d say this kind of movie would make for a fun time MST3K-ing with friends, but there’s really not enough there to make fun of.
Despite characters who came across as unlikeable, The Glass Castle is by no means a terrible drama, not in the least, because this engaging cast headlined by Brie Larson and Woody Harrelson, does make it watchable if nothing else.
Ruby might be some sort of horror cult classic, but it’s not one I particularly enjoyed, though the 1970s-era cheese factor is certainly there.
Misery is one of my favorite Stephen King adaptations though in fairness, I’m not exactly a King die-hard. Still, the movie is an successful character-drama with some psychological thrills thrown in for extra measure and features strong performances from James Caan and Kathy Bates.

The Sissi Collection tells a fictionalized story of the real life Empress Elisabeth of Austria but even so, the performance from Romy Schneider is utterly engaging even when the drama is ramped up to soap opera levels.
Cars 3 is a fine conclusion to what I have found to be a lackluster series for Disney/Pixar that really shouldn’t have been a series to begin with. But as it is, and outside of the ridiculous and contrived finale, I did find this mostly entertaining.
The Limehouse Golem is a solid enough crime-drama that excels thanks to the performances from the always reliable Bill Nighy and Olivia Cooke whom I’ve been a fan of with Bates Motel.
Demon Wind is not exactly a great independent horror film or anything and the performances are, at best, so-so, but it is an enjoyable enough flick with some moderately impressive make-up effects.
Wind River is easily the best movie I’ve seen over the past few years, though admittedly I gravitate more toward slow-burn crime-dramas and it’s a great follow-up to Hell or High Water and is an excellent directorial debut for Taylor Sheridan.
Gun Shy certainly had potential to be a quirky and entertaining crime-comedy but thanks to a haphazard story and comedy that only elicited a few chuckles; I found this to be pretty bad all around.
