Waterworld: Limited Edition Blu-ray Review

Waterworld over the course of 20 years has washed away (so to speak) some of the negativity related to its lackluster box office set against its tremendous budget. Watching all these years later, and the long awaited Ulysses Cut no less, I found it to be a really fun apocalyptic action-thriller.

Jack Ryan: 5-Film Collection 4K UHD Review + BD Screen Caps

The Jack Ryan Collection is a solid release from Paramount for what I consider a nice franchise, however there never was one that stoodout, each being fine filmmaking and storytelling and nice performances from the respective actors.

Molly’s Game BD + Screen Caps

Molly’s Game, in spite of the seemingly non-stop dialogue (both in-movie and with narration) and excessive running time, was still rather entertaining especially for those who enjoy the “sport” of poker or can appreciate the performance from Jessica Chastain who does command the screen.

Review: Hidden Figures BD

Hidden Figures is a delightful film telling a generally unknown story about three black women who were crucial to the USA’s journey to space; it features three solid performances led way by Taraji P. Henson.

Review: Criminal UHD

Criminal is your run-of-the-mill action/thriller that succeeds mostly with a strong ensemble cast led way by Kevin Costner who gives a nice performance while Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones and Ryan Reynolds are more background noise. This is the perfect movie as a rental, but not much more.

Review: No Way Out BD + Screen Caps

No Way Out was a pleasant surprise of a thriller featuring good suspense and a solid performance by Kevin Costner with honorable mention to Will Patton. To cap things off, the ending had a nice and unexpected twist.

Draft Day Blu-ray Review

Draft Day isn’t a great movie and probably ranks in the bottom half of sports films, but there’s some entertainment value and Kevin Costner helps to elevate the material far beyond what it deserves. The direction is at least interesting by Ivan Reitman and the supporting cast, albeit not well utilized, is respectable.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit Blu-ray Review

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is hardly the perfect movie, it’s not even a good thriller, but it’s a satisfying enough flick so long as you aren’t a fan of the character or novels. The plot is a bit thin but the action scenes, as dumb since as they may be, were well filmed at least.

3 Days to Kill Blu-ray Review

3 Days to Kill is yet another Luc Besson-scripted, plug-n-play movie that doesn’t really offer anything new to the genre and yet despite all its problems, still manages to be at least a serviceable action-thriller worth a look.

Man of Steel Blu-ray Review

Man of Steel had the opportunity to be a lot better but as it stands, I actually found it enjoyable and kind of liked some of the changes Zack Snyder, David Goyer and, in small part, Christopher Nolan, made, but I can understand why others would be fervently against them.
