The Flash: The Original Series is a fun enough superhero show that has all the hallmarks of the early 90s and before the subgenre was taken seriously. Still, John Wesley Shipp is wonderful as Barry Allen.
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is one of the better feature films with the Dark Knight and just a well written and amazingly animated film all around with a great voice cast.
Max Fleischer’s Superman debuts on Blu-ray through the Warner Bros. and features include three featurettes.
All-Star Superman arrives on 4K Ultra HD from Warner Bros. and features the voice cast of James Denton, Christina Hendricks and Anthony LaPaglia.
The Superman: 5-Film Collection has four movies making their debuts on 4K, though really only two of them are worth a damn. I suppose if you’re a Superman fan, maybe it’s worth it, but probably only when it’s on sale.
The less said about Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, the better. It was a misfire from the go and even the charms of Christopher Reeve could make this watchable.
Superman III was pretty much the beginning of the end of the Superman franchise. It’s not terrible but not very good either, moving to full-on goofy humor (versus a more wholesome variety of the first film), and an awful villain.
Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut does a valiant job giving viewers Donner’s original concept for the sequel and utilizing not only some new visual effects but some rehearsal footage to give as complete of a vision as possible.
Superman II is hardly perfect and with Richard Lester replacing Richard Donner probably made for a whiplash of a movie in terms of tone, but this still managed to be an entertaining sequel though the goof levels were taken up a notch.
The Return of Swamp Thing is pretty much a sequel-in-name-only and stars Heather Locklear, Louis Jourdan and Dick Durock as the titular character.
Black Adam is the latest installment within the DCEU and while I was at least moderately entertained, the story felt disjointed but it’s worse offense is the introduction several new characters, most notably the Justice Society.
Titans: The Complete Third Season comes to Blu-ray through the Warner Bros. and bonus material include several featurettes.
Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons isn’t a great animated movie nor does it really move the needle in terms of storytelling but the animation was solid and I was entertained throughout.
This “Deluxe Edition” of Batman: The Long Halloween might not have a whole lot in terms of bonus features but putting together the two parts does make for a lengthy but entertaining film that might not be as good as The Dark Knight Returns but it’s still a solid on its own.
Naomi: The Complete Series arrives on Blu-ray and DVD from Warner Bros. on August 23rd. This one and done show stars Kaci Walfall in the titular role.
