PLOT SYNOPSIS

Take flight with the original 1941-1943 Superman cartoons. These 17 animated theatrical shorts were the first to launch Superman from comic books to the screen. The pioneering adventures feature the Man of Steel (BUD COLLYER) battling mad scientists and giant robots, thwarting the Nazis, and saving tenacious Lois Lane (JOAN ALEXANDER).

SPECIAL FEATURES – 3/5

This is a single disc release containing all 17 theatrical shorts. Features include Max Fleischer’s Superman: Speeding Toward Tomorrow; First Flight: The Fleischer Superman Series; and The Man, the Myth, Superman featurettes.

VIDEO – 4½/5, AUDIO – 3½/5

Superman flies onto Blu-ray and is presented in their original 1.33 full frame aspect ratios and given 1080p high-definition transfers. Detail on this does look quite good in HD with bright and vibrant colors in each theatrical short, and is clean and there were no signs of artifacts, aliasing, or other issues with the age of these, going on 80 years now.

Each of the 17 shorts are given fine DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono tracks which outputs clear dialogue levels and respectable enough depth when considering when these were produced and released.
