The Meg is a fun enough if not also forgettable science fiction action-adventure flick, a bigger budget version of a plot you’d see from Asylum that somehow managed to get an A-grade actor to star.
The Big Lebowski has garnered a huge following over the course of 20 years and it’s easy to see why with some easy to quote lines that, often times, relates so well to real life. I’ve never been a huge fan of the movie though have grown to appreciate it over time.
The Matrix Trilogy is one of the more disappointing franchises having started off incredibly strong but the scripts for the two sequels relied too heavily on philosophical gobbledygook that it made it hard to watch, despite the (generally) great visual effects.
The Evil Dead is easily one of my favorites in the possession/supernatural horror genre of films with a simple story, fine performances all things considered including introducing audiences to the campiness greatness that is Bruce Campbell.
Arizona doesn’t break new ground in the crime-comedy genre but if you like Danny McBride’s style of humor and delivery, you’ll likely get some entertainment value out of it and I did find some moments fairly humorous.
Constantine: City of Demons is a well done entry into DC’s good animated movie line-up and features a great voice performance from Matt Ryan reprising his role from both live action and animated form.
The First Purge is by far the weakest of the four movies of the franchise and it’s not even close. Weak plot and thinly written characters torpedoed a series that was on a decline and for myself, I’m pretty much done.
Skyscraper isn’t a terribly impressive action film even by the mindless entertainment kind, but it is passable enough even if the plot heavily borrows from The Towering Inferno and Die Hard.
This X-Men: 3-Film Collection is okay and does come with good video upgrade and already solid audio, however the big downside with this set is that the studio failed to port over the second discs for each film which contained some expansive documentaries.
While hardly bad, Punisher: War Zone suffers mostly from a thin story and a tonal mismatch from the serious Punisher character versus the ever so cartoony villain and the campy performance from Dominic West.
The Punisher is probably a mid-tier comic book movie and while it’s certainly not great, I did find it mostly entertaining mainly for Thomas Jane rather than the plot or thinly written villain.
Puppet Master: Littlest Reich is a reboot to the long-running franchise and while it’s not a great film, still had some fun entertainment value and as a fan of Thomas Lennon, was nice to see the actor in a lead role.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was a misfire of a sequel and even though I wasn’t a big fan of the first movie, there were some fun moments, this one at times just felt like a rehash of The Lost World: Jurassic Park but at the very least the ending could lead to an interesting finale.
Ocean’s Eight isn’t as slick of a film compared with Ocean’s Eleven, but despite a lacking and bland cinematography and some jarring dialogue, I did generally find this entry into the franchise mostly entertaining for the ensemble cast.
The Jack Ryan Collection is a solid release from Paramount for what I consider a nice franchise, however there never was one that stoodout, each being fine filmmaking and storytelling and nice performances from the respective actors.
