Escape Plan 4K Ultra HD + BD Screen Caps

Escape Plan is a fun throwback to the 80s and 90s action genre culminated with starring the two biggest actors of that era. Although neither one of them are at the top of their game, this is still an enjoyable flick well worth at least one viewing if only to see Stallone and Schwarzenegger fight.

Jurassic Park: 25th Anniversary Collection 4K Ultra HD + BD Screen Caps

The “Limited Edition” release of the current roster of the Jurassic Park franchise (that is until June) is a well done package by Universal, though the 4K transfers weren’t exactly incredible upgrades over their Blu-ray counterparts, outside of maybe the audio.

Review: Daredevil: The Complete Second Season BD + Screen Caps

Daredevil: The Complete Second Season is yet another success story from the Netflix/Marvel line-up that I’ve seen and this season features some solid performances, even though I still can’t buy Charlie Cox in the lead, headlined by Jon Bernthal who is great as The Punisher.

Rings Blu-ray Review

Rings is simply a terrible horror movie amongst a plethora of terrible horror movies and even the venerable Vincent D’Onofrio couldn’t save this mess. The only thing this entry do is compete with The Ring Two, debating which is dumber.

Review: Jurassic World BD + Screen Caps

Jurassic World could’ve been special but instead we get thinly developed characters, a plot that’s a rehash of the original and a subplot that even Dr. Evil would think was ridiculous. But all of that could be overlooked if it were fun and entertaining; instead I found it to be on the dull side with little suspense to help mask the film’s imperfections.

Review: The Cell BD + Screen Caps

The Cell might look nice with amazing visuals by director Tarsem Singh and the production design team and conceptually it is an intriguing idea, but man its hard not to realize how dumb the movie is while watching. I suppose if viewing for the first time one might get lost in the effects and style, but drilling down, the substance is lacking to go along with one-dimensional characters (though Lopez for her part wasn’t terrible).

Review: Run All Night BD + Screen Caps

Run All Night isn’t great but a perfectly satisfactory and entertaining action/thriller flick. Liam Neeson does employ his “special set of skills” but unlike the Taken movies, his character does get more depth and actual emotion. The writing isn’t the best, in particular developing the plot, but this is at least worth a rental.

Fire with Fire Blu-ray Review

Fire with Fire is a nice little suspense-thriller which, thanks to an impressive even stellar cast, lifts above a so-so script into something that will hold your attention for 90-minutes. This is hardly a challenging movie but it’s worth checking out if not for solid performances from Josh Duhamel and Vincent D’Onofrio. Having said that, don’t expect anything more.

Impostor Blu-ray Review

Impostor isn’t a terrible film, at least not as bad as some have made it out to be, but it does come across amateurish in its style (Fleder seems to love using angles), but the acting isn’t too bad and the production design and, given the budget, visual effects is OK. This isn’t the kind of film that will challenge your brain and compared with other Philip K. Dick adaptations, it’s a mid level release.

Review: “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” – The Seventh Year DVD

“Law & Order: Criminal Intent” The Seventh Year isn’t my favorite season of the veteran series if only because I’ve never been a fan of Chris Noth and his character. Even so, the episodes featured have some good stories and fine performances all around. As with other “Law & Order” releases, this one is also bare bones in the features department but the video/audio transfers should be satisfying for any fan of the series.
