Get Shorty is a fun, frilly crime-comedy thanks to some snappy dialogue and enjoyable performances from the entire cast including Travolta, Hackman, Russo, DeVito and the late Denis Farina.
The Virgin Suicides is a movie that didn’t have a huge impact on me then and now I can appreciate it for its direction and the performances, but nothing else otherwise in terms of any emotional impact.
Hercules was never one of my favorite Disney animated movies of the 1990s, falling far short of the likes of Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid (and even in some aspects, Tarzan), but it’s still a decent enough film that the whole family can enjoy with some fine music sequences. The Blu-ray released by Buena Vista offers up a good audio/video transfers but for a “Special Edition”, the features fall well short with merely three vintage features.
Unnecessary sequels isn’t a new concept but what is new is when one of them, in this case Be Cool, actually acknowledges the fallacy of doing one as noted in probably the best part of the film, after which it’s all downhill, or at least a ho-hum plot. The video and audio transfers are both fine and slight upgrades over the DVD version and all the features, as limited as they may be, are also included.
