Streets of Fire is a rare breed of film that features a unique yet familiar style and with some interesting casting choices, two of them brilliant with the young Diane Lane and Willem Dafoe.
Final Score was a surprisingly successful action-thriller that does showcase Dave Bautista’s charisma now in a leading role, compared to his ensemble work on the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and Avengers: Infinity War.
Candyman might not be some horror classic in my book, but it was incredible enjoyable with a few good twists with taking it down an unexpected path, at least compared to others in the supernatural-horror subgenre; but what was especially noteworthy were the performances from Madsen and Todd.
Superman: The Movie is a special movie that perhaps the current generation might find a bit hokey in its innocence, but I think it still holds up pretty well, albeit I’m still not a big fan of some of the goofier moments.
I was relatively surprised that I enjoyed Star Trek: Discovery especially considering some of the backlash among certain segments as well as that the writing could be a bit clunky but got roped in as the season went along.
S.M.A.R.T. Chase is a poorly scripted action-thriller in an otherwise competently shot film. It’s also Orlando Bloom’s foray into the abyss of the direct-to-video realm.
Urban Legends: Final Cut was a poorly made horror sequel to a movie that wasn’t all that good, though at least in that case I appreciate the passion behind it, this one seemed to be cooked from numerous producers.
Urban Legend is one of many slasher movies to come out of the late 1990s/early 2000s thanks to the massive success of Scream. I never was a big fan of the movie mainly because I never found it all that scary.
Law Abiding Citizen was a bit of a disappointment for me. I know what the filmmakers’ were after by making giving the audience a difficult choice of which character to ‘root’ for, but the moral choice didn’t work for me.
Rambo III is easily the weaker of the original three films of the series with the action not quite measuring up to the first two and even Stallone felt a bit wary with his performance that didn’t feel very energetic. Still, it was moderately entertaining.
Although Rambo: First Blood Part II didn’t have as much of an emotional core compared with the first movie and is certainly far more fantastical as well, yet it does have all the hallmarks of an entertaining over-the-top violence-laden action-fest.
First Blood was a fantastic and well made action-thriller that gave audiences a bit of a different look at Sylvester Stallone outside of his Rocky character and outside of Crenna’s scene-chewing moments, this is a great film and heartfelt performance by Stallone.
Sleepwalkers isn’t a favorite horror-fantasy of mine, though I’m also not a big fan of Stephen King adaptations either save for The Shining. That being said, there are some wonderfully amusing moments.
MacGyver: The Complete First Season is a fun if not flawed beginning to a fine series helped mostly by Richard Dean Anderson and the character’s creative ways to get out of trouble using everyday objects, with a handy pocketknife at his aid.
Incredibles 2 might not be top-of-the-line Pixar but it undoubtedly a fun and often funny family movie that is a great way to spend two hours and certainly brings back the good memories of the first film from over a decade ago.
