This double feature release of Age of Consent, with Helen Mirren, and Cactus Flower starring a trio of great talents in Walter Matthau, Ingrid Bergman and Goldie Hawn (who took home an Oscar for her role), makes for a fun time.
Nightwing and Shadow of the Hawk might not be great movies, but each has their own bit of charm, I suppose. The performances from the cast made the most out of the material, especially on Nightwing and I’d say they’re worth a look
For as well loved as Zombie is and the cult following it has garnered in the 40 years since its release, I still was genuinely surprised because more often than not, I usually am disappointed in these kinds of movies.
The Satanic Rites of Dracula is a fun little horror-thriller that places two amazing veteran actors together in Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, the latter once again portraying one of the best cinematic villains in Dracula.
Ride had an interesting idea that never is quite fulfilled and a finale not entirely satisfying either. That said, the performances from the three leads were alright and writer/director Jeremy Ungar, with his D.P. Rob C. Givens, had a nice style to it.
Justice League: Throne of Atlantis is not DCUA’s best output to date but it’s a perfectly entertaining film with a few flaws, primarily the limited running time. But the voice casting is mostly good, even Jason O’Mara, and on the whole I enjoyed it and some of the darker humor.
Kin is a nice little drama-science fiction flick but is a victim of a bit of overreaction based on its initial trailer. That said, it is enjoyable enough even when you get a finale that felt like the end of the pilot episode.
Oklahoma Crude is a very well done film from legendary filmmaker Stanley Kramer with an absolutely great cast that includes George C. Scott, Faye Dunaway and Jack Palance.
Very faint praise perhaps, but The Nun is perhaps the better of the three spin-ff movies? Yes, I meant a question mark there… It has a decent atmosphere to it, taking advantage of the Romanian landscape and creepy abbey. Having said that, it is at times pretty dull.
The Marine 6: Close Quarters actually wasn’t a terrible movie and might be a step above the previous entries if only for a couple moments that were actually surprising and unpredictable.
Out of Time is a serviceable suspense-thriller mainly for the charisma of its cast, primarily Denzel Washington and to some extent, Eva Mendes, as well as John Billingsley in the comedy relief role.
Basic Instinct 2 might be bad but it’s also hardly terrible either and I will give some credit to both Sharon Stone and David Morrissey for wading through some lurid dialogue and a mindless plot.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout is another rounding success in this long-running franchise and for actor Tom Cruise himself who continues to push it up a notch with the action sequences and stunts to go along with a strong enough story to carry it across the finish line.
This Critters Collection is another nicely done work from Shout through their Scream Factory line featuring two solid movies and two… not so good ones. The transfers are all relatively well done and the features packaged together were fantastic.
I suppose there are worse ways to spend 90-minutes than sitting through Critters 4, even if the titular creatures don’t seem to have as much screen time with only two on-screen kills. Of note, though, the inclusions of Angela Bassett and Brad Dourif did make it more interesting.
