The Godfather Trilogy 4K Ultra HD Review

The Godfather Trilogy is another (almost) great set from Paramount with a plethora of bonus features and excellent video and audio transfers. My only qualm is, like the DVD set, they’ve gone back to the cardboard digi-pak which means you’re SOL if any of them get damaged.

The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper Blu-ray Review

The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper is an exaggerated telling of the infamous skyjacking true story and stars Treat Williams in the titular role and Robert Duvall as the man in, well, pursuit.

Days of Thunder 4K Ultra HD Review

Days of Thunder isn’t a great racing film and rather low in the rankings amongst both Tom Cruise and Tony Scott’s resume, but the scenes of the actual races were pretty good and as a whole, was entertaining enough.

Apocalypse Now: Final Cut 4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray Review

Hopefully this will satisfy the legendary Francis Ford Coppola. Personally, while I did love Apocalypse Now: Final Cut, and give it an A+ grade, it’s not perfection as the French plantation scene still drags the film down.

Widows Blu-ray Review

Widows is a well done and ultimately effective thriller from Steve McQueen that features some top-notch acting and an engaging story.

Jack Reacher 4K Ultra HD Review + BD Screen Caps

Jack Reacher is a well made suspense-thriller featuring a great performance from producer/star Tom Cruise and his supporting cast members. However, while the story starts off with incredible tension the ultimate motives by the villain came off as weak. Even so, this is an entertaining movie with great stunts and action scenes.

Geronimo: An American Legend Blu-ray Review

Geronimo: An American Legend is a excellently made historical drama from renowned filmmaker Walter Hill and with a great group of cast headlined by Gene Hackman, Wes Studi (as the title character), Jason Patric and Matt Damon in one of his early roles, this is a great film.

Lawman BD + Screen Caps

Lawman is yet another western that really is undistinguishable with the others in the genre, but I did find it entertaining if only for the cast led by Burt Lancaster and Robert Ryan, as well as Robert Duvall in a smaller role.

Review: The Handmaid’s Tale BD + Screen Caps

The Handmaid’s Tale is an unusual movie to get released to Blu-ray under Shout’s Select line though it’s likely due to Hulu producing a television series based on the novel. As it is, it’s a bit plodding at times but the acting is top notch from the Natasha Richardson to Robert Duvall as a despicable human being.

Review: The Chase BD + Screen Caps

The Chase is an all-star centered crime-drama and an acting tour-de-force from Marlon Brando to Jane Fonda and Robert Redford. It’s somewhat of a forgotten film but thankfully finds a home on Blu-ray through Twilight Time’s Limited Edition series.

The Killer Elite Blu-ray Review

The Killer Elite is an interesting little film from the 1970s, long forgotten in the midst of far better films like The Godfather, The Conversation and The French Connection and there’s a good reason: this never hit the full potential when you get the likes of James Caan and Robert Duvall together.

Phenomenon Blu-ray Review

Phenomenon is a well acted and finely dramatic film that seemed primed to be Oscar bait, especially in the acting category if you see a few of the scenes. However, it doesn’t hold much replay value because while the story is well done and features some fine direction by Jon Turteltaub, it’s just one of those movies that’s only worth one viewing every few years, despite a fine performance from John Travolta.
