Mallrats has found a new audience over the past 20+ years with home video media, and myself enjoyed it a bit more) and now 2.5 decades later, manages to get a complete Blu-ray release with a few new features and an upgraded video transfer.
The Back to the Future Trilogy is still fantastic even after watching it for probably the tenth time and holds up in its entertainment value. Universal once again releases the movies on a new format and it does feature great video and audio and a few fine new features alongside a slew of others ported over from previous sets.
White Fire had all the hallmarks of being one of those good-bad action movies from the 1980s and while it had its moments, Ginty fights off some goons with a chainsaw, but the last two-thirds were rather dull.
Warning from Space (a.k.a. Spacemen Appear in Tokyo) comes to Blu-ray from Arrow Video (released on 10/13) and comes with a select-scene commentary, American version of the film, trailers and a gallery.
Space Ghost & Dino Boy is a fun 1960s-era cartoon that’s pretty simplistic in both the animation and storytelling, but still worth checking out, though personally I could skip through the “Dino Boy” segments.
The Brides of Dracula isn’t the strongest of the “Dracula” movies or even monster flicks from Hammer Films, but it certainly is the most stylish with some rich production designs and Peter Cushing great playing Van Helsing.
The Owners isn’t exactly a unique movie (kind of similar to Don’t Breath) but at the very least starts off well enough but even with a few decent scenes in the third act, the rest of the film doesn’t have a whole lot to offer.
Friendsgiving sort of excels thanks to Malin Akerman and Kat Dennings surrounded by a nice supporting cast. Didn’t think the script did this ensemble a whole lot of favors, but I did chuckle few times at least.
The Doorman doesn’t have a whole lot new to offer in the thriller genre as it is filled with plenty of clichés, but I still found it relatively entertaining even if the material isn’t anything unique.
Star Trek: Picard – Season One isn’t great especially with seeing Patrick Stewart returning to his iconic character, but I found it watchable however I’ve never been an avid viewer of TNG or any other Trek incarnation growing up.
Stargirl is a fun superhero fantasy-adventure featuring some unique characters that haven’t been seen before, most I’ve never heard of, however as much as I have criticized some other DC shows, this one is probably my favorites.
The Bloodfight/Ironheart Double Feature from MVD through their “Rewind Collection” touts it has “2 Bolo Yeung Classics” and while he’s in both of the movies, they are minor roles. Beyond that, neither movie is very good.
Cats & Dogs 3: Paws Unite! is the latest installment in the vaunted family-adventure franchise and features the voice cast of Melissa Rauch, Max Greenfield and George Lopez and is available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digitally.
Valley Girl is an update version of the 1983 classic with a musical twist. The film stars Jessica Rothe, Josh Whitehouse, Mae Whitman and Judy Greer. The Blu-ray (out 10/6) is available for purchase and comes with a Digital HD code.
The Pale Door isn’t your ordinary western for sure with… interesting horror elements thrown in. While it’s not all that good, I guess I can commend the filmmakers for trying something a bit new for the genre even if some of it didn’t quite work.
