This 2005 TV adaptation of The Poseidon Adventure is pretty awful. Not only is the acting bad, I honestly expected a bit more from Rutger Hauer and even Peter Weller, it’s a story stretched across 170+ minutes, it is quite tedious to sit through.

VIDEO – 3.25/5, AUDIO – 3.5/5

The Poseidon Adventure sails onto Blu-ray and is presented with a 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio as originally aired on NBC. Going in, I didn’t really expect a whole lot for a SyFy-like production and although it hardly looks fantastic now in 1080p high-definition, it actually doesn’t look terrible. The colors are fairly vibrant including the deep blue’s of the ocean while detail was decent enough. On the negative side, there were some compression issues given how much data was placed on a single disc.

The movie includes a standard Dolby Digital 5.1 track which is satisfactory enough. Dialogue levels sounded crisp and clean while the action elements provide some moderate depth; ambient noises and music would make use of the rear speakers. Although a lossless track would’ve been nice, considering the source material, this was adequate but nothing more.

OVERALL – 1.5/5

Overall, this 2005 TV adaptation of The Poseidon Adventure is pretty awful. Not only is the acting bad, I honestly expected a bit more from Rutger Hauer and even Peter Weller, and with a story stretched across 170+ minutes, it is quite tedious to sit through. As for this Blu-ray release by Mill Creek, is exactly what you would expect for a title that retails for $15; the picture and audio qualities are both sufficient though no features were included.
