On the 3rd Day is a supernatural-horror film coming out of Argentina and stars Mariana Anghileri and Gerardo Romano. The Blu-ray is available from Shout Factory on March 29th.
Alligator isn’t a half-bad movie with its cheesy moments and some respectable makeup effects, not to mention the charisma from Robert Forster in a lead role. Don’t know how much replay value it has, though it does provide a fun time.
Krampus I’m sure has its fanbase and while the movie has its moments, along with some respectable effects, I wasn’t terribly enamored finding this to be only moderately entertaining with no real standouts.
Kindred arrives on Blu-ray and DVD from Shout Factory on June 15th. This horror-thriller stars Tamara Lawrance, Jack Lowden and Fiona Shaw.
Alone in the Dark is a very entertaining slasher-horror-thriller that came out of the early 1980s that bucks the trend of having a bunch of teenagers being slaughtered by some faceless psycho, instead three scary individuals.
Stardust is a biopic on David Bowie’s early career starring Johnny Flynn and Jena Malone. Shout Factory releases the movie on Blu-ray and DVD.
The Dead Zone doesn’t quite enter into classic territory for me, but I did generally find it entertaining thanks to a charismatic enough performance from Christopher Walken who actually plays the lead fairly straight.
House of Wax, while far from great, is still a decently entertaining remake featuring some well done practical and halfway respectable visual effects plus had some creepy moments.
Embattled arrived on Blu-ray and DVD from Shout Factory on June 1st. This melodrama stars Stephen Dorff, Darren Mann and Elizabeth Reaser.
King Kong (1976) is certainly a flawed movie, entertaining for the most part though, but the biggest drawback is with the Kong suit which sometimes looks fine but his facial expressions were at best goofy, at worst downright creepy.
Event Horizon is a movie I’ve seen a few times and my ratings ranged from 3.25-3.75 with this go-around on the lower end. There is some entertainment value but the film doesn’t exactly reach its full potential.
Tesla is a loose bio-drama about Nikola Tesla and is played here by Ethan Hawke and also features Eve Hewson, Jim Gaffigan and Kyle MacLachlan, and arrived on Blu-ray and DVD February 2nd.
The Rental is a home invasion thriller starring Dan Stevens, Alison Brie, Sheila Vand and Jeremy Allen White and is the directorial debut for Dave Franco.
The Brides of Dracula isn’t the strongest of the “Dracula” movies or even monster flicks from Hammer Films, but it certainly is the most stylish with some rich production designs and Peter Cushing great playing Van Helsing.
Ghost Ship is the worst kind of horror movie. It’s pretty darn dull, nothing especially frightening although I’ll give it some props for a decent set design and gore effects, just not much else going for it.
