Deathstroke: Knights and Dragons is a well done animated movie and good enough substitution for a live action feature that is unlikely to happen. I did like the story, bridging together the character’s interesting backstory.
Batwoman is pretty much in line with other CW shows, meaning the writing, and dialogue, aren’t exactly top notch and here even the acting never quite jives, even Ruby Rose whom I really like, never fit.
Pennyworth is the latest series based on characters from DC Comics, this time getting the suspense-filled drama about the background for the future Wayne butler, Alfred. The season arrived on Blu-ray June 23rd.
Wonder Woman in terms of content is a show of its time and I’m sure today’s audiences might have a difficult time sitting through an episode, I still find it fairly entertaining thanks in large part to Lynda Carter’s committed performance.
Legion of Super Heroes: The Complete Series is a show that only lasted two seasons from nearly 15 years ago, so I can be forgiven for not ever heard of it before. However, it’s a fun enough time for most ages though I’m not a big fan of the animation style.
Justice League Dark: Apokolips War is a wonderful conclusion to the New 52 DCAU which had its ups and downs but produced some good features, a few of which rival the live action side.
Harley Quinn: The Complete First Season features some great animation and Kaley Cuoco isn’t bad voicing the lead, but the storytelling never worked for me, although the characterization of HQ seemed spot-on.
Birds of Prey, despite its madcap narration by Robbie’s Harley Quinn, is a rather forgettable film, though Quinn is still an interesting character, sadly overshadowing the others.
Titans: The Complete Second Season is a solid step up from season one, though I am biased as a fan of Deathstroke who was the central villain, and the new Titans crew is a lot of fun, yes even the arrogant Jason Todd.
Young Justice: Outsides: The Complete Third Season was a wish come true for fans of the series before it was cancelled after only two seasons and even as someone who wasn’t a regular viewer, watching this third season was a lot of fun.
Joker is one of the more unique experiences I’ve had, and perhaps helping is that I am a fan of DC characters, and while this may not be a comic accurate portrayal, the performance by Joaquin Phoenix was nothing short than incredible.
Shazam: The Complete Live Action Series is everything that is so wrong and yet so right about the 1970s and the state of the superhero genre which at that juncture consisted of cheap production and campy humor; still, this was a fun show to watch all things considered.
The Kitchen is the epitome of an un-ambitious movie that is less of a love song to the crime-dramas of the 1970s and instead features a myriad of topes and clichés from the era.
The Teen Titans: The Complete Series release is a great set especially if you didn’t already own the individual releases, plus it saves a small amount of shelf space for those lacking it.
Wonder Woman: Bloodlines unfortunately is not only one of the lesser within the DC Animated Universe but arguably the worst and continues a bit of a slide following the disappointing Reign of the Supermen, and the poorly scripted Batman: Hush.
