Review: The Lion King: The Signature Collection BD + Screen Caps

This “Signature Collection” release of The Lion King isn’t anything special but the video and audio transfers are both pitch perfect and while the features aren’t that great,  it’s nice to see this amazing movie get back on Blu-ray.

Gotham: The Complete Third Season Blu-ray Review

No Escape is an all around entertaining film perfect for a Saturday movie night. No, it doesn’t make you think or have any profound performances but the acting isn’t bad with Owen Wilson serving as a fine everyman type of character and Pierce Brosnan in his small part is a lot of fun. This is probably worthy of a rental.

Review: Batman and Harley Quinn BD + Screen Caps

Batman and Harley Quinn is a movie that in theory should’ve been great with Bruce Timm as a writer, but what we get instead is a weak story, and what amounted to an average episode of The New Adventures of Batman, where the jokes don’t always land and even relegated to potty humor.

Review: Daredevil: The Complete Second Season BD + Screen Caps

Daredevil: The Complete Second Season is yet another success story from the Netflix/Marvel line-up that I’ve seen and this season features some solid performances, even though I still can’t buy Charlie Cox in the lead, headlined by Jon Bernthal who is great as The Punisher.

Review: Night Moves BD + Screen Caps

While not exactly an obscure movie from the ‘70s, Night Moves has been largely forgotten or lost amongst the classics of what was arguably the best decade for cinema. Hackman is, per usual, amazing.

Jessica Jones: The Complete First Season Blu-ray Review

Jessica Jones: The Complete First Season is a great series that is dark, gritty and film noir in its style and storytelling… just with mutants/metahumans/them thrown in for extra measure. Krysten Ritter and David Tennant deliver amazing performances opposite one another.

Review: The Slayer BD + Screen Caps

The Slayer isn’t exactly top-notch 1980s horror as it is slow plodding and thinly written characters, but the atmosphere of taking place on a deserted island hold up in a house with a storm outside (and inside) approaches, it’s at least an entertaining experience.

Review: Kid Galahad BD + Screen Caps

Kid Galahad is a fun Elvis Presley sports musical (not many of those out there) that features some catchy 1960s tunes and some fine performances from Presley and Gig Young.

Maurice Blu-ray Review

Maurice is a finely crafted, socially relevant and fantastically acted drama based on the novel by E.M. Forster, namely James Wilby and Hugh Grant. The Blu-ray released through Cohan Media Group offers up excellent video and audio transfers and a nice selection of bonus features.

Review: Suddenly, Last Summer BD + Screen Caps

Suddenly, Last Summer is a great drama both in terms of story but especially the performances by Katherine Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor were amazing and deserving of the Oscar nominations they received that year.

Review: 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag BD + Screen Caps

8 Heads in a Duffel Bag is a movie I remember seeing advertising for back in 1997, and no wonder with a distinct title like that. As a movie, there are some darkly fun scenes mainly for Joe Pesci who is in his element in the Mafioso role.

Review: Blindspot: The Complete Second Season BD + Screen Caps

Blindspot: The Complete Second Season is nice step up from an already good freshman season with an expansion on the mystery surrounding Jane Doe and a fine mixture between procedural and serial and an effective season-long villain.

Review: Inconceivable BD + Screen Caps

It’s, well, Inconceivable how a movie like this could get made as the story has been done numerous times before, no doubt countless Lifetime Movies, but worst of all, been done better before with the likes of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. As it is, there’s not much to really enjoy from this.

Review: Baywatch 4K/BD + Screen Caps

Baywatch actually was a bit better than I expected as I did manage to chuckle throughout and the film does a good job honoring yet also making fun of the old series (a la 21 Jump Street). This is a worthy rental.

Review: Supergirl: The Complete Second Season BD + Screen Caps

Supergirl: The Complete Second Season is quite entertaining in spite of its faults with the script writing and some performances, yet Melissa Benoist is a delight in the lead, almost Christopher Reeve-esque in her cheerfulness, and the season-long arcs were compelling.
