Dolores Claiborne BD + Screen Caps

There must be something about Kathy Bates starring in a Stephen King film adaptation and in Dolores Claiborne, she deserved the Oscar with a wonderfully subdued performance alongside a respectable cast.

Dunkirk 4K/BD + BD Screen Caps

Dunkirk might not be Christopher Nolan’s strongest film, and given the subject it really should have been, and although it didn’t connect to me on an emotional level, both in terms of characters or suspense-thriller aspects, it is still a technically well made film worth watching.

Auntie Mame BD + Screen Caps

Auntie Mame is a fun enough comedy-drama excelling thanks to the eccentric performance from Rosalind Russell and while I didn’t fully fall in love with the film, and it is a tad lengthy, I did find it mostly entertaining.

Leatherface BD + Screen Caps

Leatherface is yet another, at best, disappointing entry into the vaunted Texas Chain Saw franchise, one where probably for the first two and, for me, the remake, were any good, the others not so much and I’d include this one but more for how forgettable it was than outright bad.

mother! 4K/BD + BD Screen Caps

mother! might’ve had some things going for it and there’s no doubt Aronofsky doesn’t fit into a box like other directors, but this allegorical movie was a complete misfire, particularly in the second half.

Game of Thrones: The Complete Seventh Season BD + Screen Caps

Although Game of Thrones: The Complete Seventh Season isn’t the strongest of this series, it’s still another solid year with great performances and some well written storylines with more maneuvers by our characters as each position themselves for power.

Interstellar 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Review

Interstellar very well may be my favorite Christopher Nolan movie, perhaps even edging out The Dark Knight which is saying something from a Batman fan. The performance from Matthew McConaughey was magnificent and powerful and the story itself captivating.

Animal Factory BD + Screen Caps

Animal Factory is probably more noteworthy for the performances by Edward Furlong and Willem Dafoe than offering anything new in terms of story, and commentary, about prison life. Still worth watching, however.

Wolf Warrior 2 BD

Wolf Warrior 2, amazingly, is one of the highest grossing movies of all-time taking in $854 million in China, the second highest in any single market behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As for the movie itself, it’s entertaining enough for sure though nothing really separates it from others in the genre either.

Midsomer Murders: John Barnaby’s First Cases DVD

Midsomer Murders is a well written British mystery series that has been running for 20+ years and this collection of John Barnaby’s First Cases is probably more made for moderate fans or complete novices as the episodes were already released in other sets.

M.F.A. BD + Screen Caps

M.F.A. is a movie that was written and released at just the right time considering the climate today, but beyond that story, which was only okay, the performance from Francesca Eastwood was phenomenal and one can only hope she gets even more work in the future.

American Assassin 4K/BD + BD Screen Caps

American Assassin doesn’t manage to standout amongst the numerous other espionage thrillers out there and yet I found it entertaining mostly for the cast, namely Dylan O’Brien and Michael Keaton, not to mention relative newcomer Shiva Negar, more so than the plot.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life BD + Screen Caps

Although I didn’t really watch Gilmore Girls when it originally aired, it’s a series that I found somewhat enjoyable on syndication with lively and likeable characters so it is nice seeing them back together in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is a fun experience of four mini-movies.

Home Again BD + Screen Caps

Home Again is hardly terrible but also hardly as charming as the filmmakers thought it was in spite of Reese Witherspoon whose talents are hardly taxed. This is at best a rental otherwise it’s a story that should’ve aired on the Hallmark Channel.
