Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced the date and released artwork for the war-drama, The Yellow Birds starring Tye Sheridan, Alden Ehrenreich, Toni Collette, Jason Patric, Jack Huston and Jennifer Aniston. Click on the link below or image to the left to check out the features and artwork.
Office Christmas Party is yet another comedy with an amazing, and mostly proven, cast (Aniston is probably the standout) that fails due to a screenplay that lacked consistent laughs and features an absolutely cringe-worthy finale.
The Iron Giant is one of the better classic animated movies that have come along in the past 20 years and can compete right alongside Disney’s best, it’s just unfortunate Warner dropped the ball marketing it and instead it bombed at the box office. Thankfully since making its way on home video, the film has found a fanbase.
Horrible Bosses 2 like its comedy sequels that have come before (see The Hangover 2 & 3), is the definition of unnecessary and kind of lazy in its jokes. On the plus side Chris Pine was a hoot to watch in a completely comedic role (vs. the balance of snark and drama in the Star Trek movies) and the three stooges at least looked like they were having a good time which helped pass the time.
In Rock Star, I can respect Mark Wahlberg’s performance, and some of those in the supporting cast like Timothy Olymphant and Jason Flemyng, but it’s a clichéd drama that never quite hit the, ahem, right high notes to make for an engaging drama. The Blu-ray released by Warner has some thin special features while the video/audio transfers are at least sufficient.
We’re the Millers as a concept isn’t very good and could’ve easily been destined for direct-to-video hell but thanks to a director who seems to know how to direct comedy and a cast who share some great chemistry with one another, Millers is a film that won’t go down as one of the greats but is a more than serviceable comedy with some fun moments.
The second season of “Friends” is actually better than the first with some great storylines, like the Ross/Rachel relationship getting ratcheted up and Monica getting involved with an older man. The comedy is gold and you begin to see how the series would run as long as it did. The Blu-ray is light in features but the video and audio transfers are on the acceptable level and are on par with what’s seen on TBS syndication.

This “Complete Series” box set has a great amount of features and while it only has the standard Dolby Digital audio track, to me the picture is good enough to warrant a purchase especially if you don’t already own the DVDs.
A decent rental, but unless you are in love with any of these actors, Horrible Bosses might be a tough buy at $20. For $10, I’d say go for it. The Blu-ray boasts average picture and audio quality, with little to no extras, so be warned.
Just Go With It might’ve sounded good on paper, or at least on the stage since it is based on a play, but the practicality of it even within the romantic-comedy realm just doesn’t add up. We have two characters that we’re supposed to like, and in fact at times do, but when you take a step back, their actions make no sense.
