The Kitchen Blu-ray Review

The Kitchen is the epitome of an un-ambitious movie that is less of a love song to the crime-dramas of the 1970s and instead features a myriad of topes and clichés from the era.

The Happytime Murders Blu-ray Review

The Happytime Murders, while not entirely funny with the puppet gimmick growing old, was a tolerable enough film especially one starring Melissa McCarthy; it’s probably worth a rental for fans of McCarthy and/or seeing violent/crude puppets.

Life of the Party Blu-ray Review

Life of the Party might be a far more tolerable Melissa McCarthy vehicle compared to Tammy and The Boss, but it’s still not all that good, either, with the humor rarely hitting the mark.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life BD + Screen Caps

Although I didn’t really watch Gilmore Girls when it originally aired, it’s a series that I found somewhat enjoyable on syndication with lively and likeable characters so it is nice seeing them back together in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is a fun experience of four mini-movies.

Ghostbusters (2016) Blu-ray Review

Ghostbusters (2016) isn’t the hot mess the trailers showed it could’ve been (this year’s Alice Through the Looking Glass was far worse) and yet for all of the potential with a talented cast, the screenplay which was co-scripted by Paul Feig, was pretty bad, with the jokes falling utterly flat.

Review: The Boss BD + Screen Caps

Melissa McCarthy continues her usual schlock in The Boss and teaming up with her director/husband following the atrocious Tammy, this might be a step above that movie but not by much as the laughs are few and far between and worse yet, is kind of mean-spirited at times.

Tammy Blu-ray Review

Tammy is yet another lame comedy (with attempts at sappy drama) from McCarthy and company following the tepid Identity Thief but I’m hoping at some point the actress, who can be funny, widens her range instead playing the same type of characters made famous in Bridesmaid.

The Heat Blu-ray Review

The Heat is a fun little twist on the buddy cop comedy and even though it doesn’t nearly measure up to Lethal Weapon both in terms of chemistry or the plot and villain, there’s just enough here to make it worthwhile. Both Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy are wonderful together and McCarthy uses every opportunity to showcase her comedic talents, albeit at the expense of a coherent or merely serviceable plot. But I had fun with it and laughed at the right moments.

The Hangover Part III Blu-ray Review

The Hangover Part III by definition as unnecessary but despite two cruel scenes as well as some scenes that just didn’t hit the mark, I still enjoyed this sequel although I’m not sure if it’s because it’s actually funny or if it’s relative to the fact Part II was a complete rehash of the first sans laughs. In any case, I’m not giving this a glowing review for the obvious reasons however it is at least worth a rental.
