Into the Ashes had some potential but the first 35-40 minutes were meandering at best, dull at worst and nothing in the remaining hour could make up for it, though even then, some storytelling choices were a bit odd.
Fifty Shades of Grey is one of the more blasé “controversial” movies, one which doesn’t appeal to anybody, alienating its fans as well as those who have not read the novels. It also doesn’t help that the filmmakers seem to take the material so seriously and have actors read such terrible dialogue. That said, Dakota Johnson is pretty good and the production design and soundtrack are all far better than this material deserves.
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane had the potential to be something special and transcend the horror genre but instead it was a bit of a bore and showed why it merely made its way around the film festival circuit, never landing a distribution deal. However, and acknowledging it isn’t her best work, Amber Heard is the highlight in an otherwise forgettable film.
