Middle-Earth: Ultimate Collector’s Edition 4K Ultra HD Review

The Middle-Earth: Ultimate Collector’s Edition set is a nice looking collection and a unique packaging that looks good on a bookshelf. The new features are fine and all and glad all of the commentaries are there, but disappointing that none of the extensive supplements were ported over.

The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy 4K Ultra HD Review

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is still an incredible feet all these years later and even though I have watched it more than few times, it holds up exceptionally well (side for a couple CGI moments that look off) with a wonderful ensemble cast.

Review: The Trust BD + Screen Caps

The Trust had a lot going for it if only the filmmakers could’ve kept the (dark) comedy aspect in the crime-caper going through the third act but we get an almost 180 flip and although it goes to the title, it doesn’t make much sense and not entirely earned. As such, this is at best a rental mainly for the first 2/3rds and some, well, interesting line-readings by Nicolas Cage.

The Last Witch Hunter Blu-ray Review

The Last Witch Hunter is a misfire on all fronts save perhaps for the passion I’m sure Vin Diesel (who also served as executive producer) had. Review: Open Windows BD + Screen Caps

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: Extended Edition Blu-ray Review

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has its moments with fine performances from Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage and the always reliable Ian McKellen who slips right back into his Gandalf garbs without missing a beat. But the screenplay and plotline feels too simplistic especially when you compare the scope and ultimate effect it would have on Middle Earth.

Celeste and Jesse Forever Blu-ray Review

Celeste and Jesse Forever does have some things going for it like the chemistry between Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg but how the main character, Celeste, was written (partially by Jones herself) made her come across as awfully self-centered and the key scene where she seeks redemption doesn’t help matters as it takes place at her best friend’s wedding.
