Review: The American Side DVD

The American Side starts out well enough as a throwback crime-mystery before, for whatever reason, the writers decided to throw in a “Da Vinci Code”-like story arc that really failed to connect. On the plus side, the cast isn’t bad led by Greg Stuhr (who co-wrote), Camilla Belle, Matthew Broderick and Robert Forster.

Review: Louder Than Bombs DVD

Louder Than Bombs is an uneven but well acted drama featuring strong performances by Gabriel Byrne and Jesse Eisenberg. It’s nothing memorable but for who enjoy character dramas, it’s certainly worth a rental. The DVD released through Sony offers good audio and video transfers.

Review: Mill Creek Multi-Pack June 2016 Releases

I give a brief breakdown on Mill Creek’s June 7th multi-movie pack releases, specifically Streets of Fear and Midnight Movie Madness. None of these movies are of high-quality and are mainly remembered for the stars sometimes in smaller roles. At basement bargain prices, these might be worthy for collector’s of these cheap sets.

Review: Electra Woman & Dyna Girl DVD

Based on a 1970s TV series, Electra Woman & Dyna Girl is an enjoyable little superhero spoofish film with passable performances with two leads in Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart share some fun chemistry with one another. The DVD release offers solid video, so-so audio and a decent enough selection of special features.

Review: Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart DVD

This is your basic made-for-TV movie that doesn’t really offer anything new and being based on Braxton’s own memoir, skewed one way thus is a bit biased. Still, the performances aren’t half bad led by newcomer Lex Scott Davis and for fans of the singer, they might get something out of this, otherwise skip.

Review: Joseph & Mary DVD

Joseph & Mary isn’t a good movie, in fact it seems like a poorly acted stage play. Even the inclusion of Kevin Sorbo, who can be charming, doesn’t help. I suppose if one was religious they might get something out of it, and to be fair, it is a safe movie, but I have to think there’s better material out there…

Review: Possessed by Evil: 5-Movie Collection DVD

This 5-movie collection release, Possessed by Evil, is a bargain-bin fodder from Mill Creek. If you don’t own a couple of these titles, it might be worth picking up given the cheap SRP, just don’t expect too much.

Review: One More Time DVD

One More Time doesn’t feature a great story but I can at least admire it for the cast with Christopher Walken, Amber Heard and Ann Magnuson though it’s not quite even worth a rental but instead check it out once it’s available for free. The DVD is bare bones with no bonus material.

Review: Major Crimes: The Complete Fourth Season DVD

“Major Crimes” is still a good series which excels more due to the characters than the episode plotlines. The core, and veteran cast from “The Closer”, are a lot of fun to watch while anything involving Rusty didn’t really interest me once his investigation into Jane Doe had finished (which was only a few episodes in).

Review: Mill Creek Entertainment May 2016 TV on DVD

Mill Creek’s bargain releases for “Knight Rider” and “Miami Vice” is effectively priced (<$10 per season) especially for those who don’t already own them. Another plus over the Universal releases is these are slimmer packaging so those with limited shelf space will benefit. Sadly, they do not have any features but that’s not too surprising.

Review: Scream: The TV Series: The Complete First Season DVD

“Scream”: The TV Series isn’t great but at least it was better than I expected especially as a fan of the movies series (sans #3). At times it attempts its own identity which was welcoming and I was digging the season… until the finale where the killer’s reveal was hardly surprising.

Review: Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation: The Complete Series DVD

Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation” is just a bad series that I suppose young kids might enjoy but any fan of the original will find to be an abomination that will lead one to appreciate the newest incarnation.
