PLOT SUMMARY

Garfield has been a staple in family’s homes for decades and for some, myself included, look forward to the holiday specials, Looking at them years later, these specials, and the series as well, never was funny ha-ha but funny in an amusing sort of way.

SPECIALS:
A Garfield Christmas
It’s a good old-fashioned Christmas on the family farm when Jon, Garfield and Odie go home for the holidays, where Garfield learns the true meaning of Christmas — “It’s not the giving, it’s not the getting, it’s the loving.”

Garfield’s Thanksgiving
On Thanksgiving according to Garfield, people celebrate food by “eating as much of it as possible. It’s a tradition. I love tradition.” But that tradition is history following a checkup from veterinarian Liz Wilson, a sassy lady who’s also the new heartthrob of Garfield’s owner, Jon.

Garfield on the Town
Jim Davis’ feisty feline is on his own after slipping out of the car on a trip to the vet. Forced to scrounge for food, Garfield has a run-in with the mean All Cat and his gang, and is later reunited with his long lost mother.

Garfield’s Halloween Adventure
Garfield has one spooktacular adventure on the Eve of All Saints. He fashions himself a pirate costume and takes Odie out trick-or-treating to ensure extra candy. But when attempting to cross a river Garfield and Odie end up at a haunted house.

Garfield in Paradise
Garfield in Paradise finds the cool cat, his owner Jon and Odie the dog vacationing on a tropical island along with the High Rama Lama of rock and roll, a princess and her cat – and a rumbling volcano.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.0/5

This single-disc release comes with a glossy slip cover.

The House That Garfield Built: A Visit with Jim Davis (22:12) is an interview with the cartoonist chatting about the character and the holiday specials.

Also included is the Garfield Living Large Trailer (0:32) and an Image Gallery.

VIDEO – 2.5/5 | AUDIO – 3.0/5

Each special is presented with a 1.33 full frame aspect ratio which is OK but does look washed out while the audio is a simple Dolby Digital 2.0 track, though it sounds more like mono, which provides for loud but clear enough dialogue.

OVERALL – 3.0/5

Overall, this “Garfield”: Holiday Collection is perfect for the fans as these aren’t the easiest to find and to have five of them on one disc, to go along with a fun interview with Jim Davis, makes for a nice set and well worth the price especially at or below the $15 SRP.
