THE MOVIE — 3½/5

Plot Synopsis: Hotshot television anchorman Ron Burgundy (WILL FERRELL) welcomes upstart reporter Veronica Corningstone (CHRISTINA APPLEGATE) into the male-dominated world of 1970s broadcast news — that is, until the talented female journalist begins to outshine Burgundy on air. Soon he grows jealous, begins a bitter feud with Veronica and eventually makes a vulgar slip on live TV that ruins his career. However, when an outrageous story breaks at the San Diego Zoo, Ron may get a chance to redeem himself.

Quick Hit Review: Anchorman is certainly a classic comedy, one I actually saw in theaters back in 2004 and it has plenty of laughs and of course memorable lines that I still reference today both in real life and on social media. I’ve seen this one numerous times over the years and still manages to illicit laughs from me when I might not be having a great day. Will Ferrell is incredibly funny alongside Christina Applegate showcasing her comedic chops as seen on Married… with Children.

VIDEO – 4½/5

Anchorman debuts on 4K Ultra HD and is presented in its original 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and a 2160p high-definition transfer. I’ve always been the opinion that certain movies don’t need such a high resolution, but that being said, I did think the picture looked fairly good, detail was sharp and well defined and colors bright in keeping with the goofy nature of the characters and story. Should be noted that only the theatrical version is in 4K, but the Unrated Version is available on the Blu-ray disc.

AUDIO – 4½/5

The included DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track which I’m guessing is the same one from the 2010 Blu-ray release. Dialogue though came across the center channel well enough and even the epic fight scene gives off some depth from all directions. Nothing phenomenal considering this is a straight-up comedy but still quite good.

OVERALL — 4¼/5

Anchorman isn’t a favorite of mine but all these years later is still quotable and a lot of fun to watch with Will Ferrell in all his over-the-top glory. The 4K Ultra HD release does a fine upgrade for the video while the audio is likely the same from the original Blu-ray.
