PLOT SYNOPSIS |
My Name is Myeisha chronicles the life of a young black woman in California’s Inland Empire. Set in 1998, Myeisha Jackson (RHAECHYL WALKER) vividly recounts the events of her life leading to a fateful encounter with local police. Based on the internationally acclaimed, NAACP-award-winning stageplay Dreamscape, My Name is Myeisha is a moving story of self-discovery and the moments that make us who we are. |
SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.75/5 |
This release comes with an Audio Commentary with Gus Krieger, Interviews (32:21) with the cast, a Photo Gallery (5:34) and two Trailers (2:02). |
VIDEO – 4.5/5 |
The movie is presented with a 2.39 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. As with most new movies, even ones that perhaps don’t have a huge budget, the film looks quite good, detail is fairly sharp on the close-ups and the dark levels, which there is plenty of during the stage-like sequences with black backgrounds, are stark. Nothing amazing but still all in all a fine transfer. |
AUDIO – 4.5/5 |
The included DTS-HD MA 5.1 track sounds good, showcasing the catchy hip-hop/rap music through the front and rear speakers with the center channel being relegated for the clear dialogue. The depth isn’t overwhelming but the LFE track does turn on for an added kick. |
OVERALL – 3.0/5 |
My Name is Myeisha is certainly an interesting film apparently adapted from a stage play which is pretty evident, even so, the performance from newcomer Rhaechyl Walker was a nice surprise and hopefully she gets a chance in the future. The Blu-ray release has good video and audio transfers to go along with a so-so selection of bonus material. |
