SEASON SYNOPSIS

In a time of immense economic change, where fortunes are amassed and lost in the blink of an eye, Marian Brook (LOUISA JACOBSON), the orphaned daughter of a Union general, moves to Manhattan and becomes entangled in the social war between her aristocratic aunts (CHRISTINE BARANSKI, CYNTHIA NIXON) and their stupendously rich neighbors (MORGAN SPECTOR, CARRIE COON). Exposed to a world on the brink of the modern age, will Marian follow the established rules of society or forge her own path?

VIDEO – 3½/5, AUDIO – 4/5

It’s a shame a show with such rich costumes and, for the most part, production design only received a DVD release and no Blu-ray. As it is, this show, presented in 16×9 enhanced 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio, looks okay but a lot of this is pretty darkly lit and detail is pretty soft.

Each episode comes with a Dolby Digital 5.1 track which was satisfactory with the fine score from Harry and Rupert Gregson-Williams giving it some okay depth while dialogue comes across clearly enough.
