Big Trouble in Little China isn’t one of my favorite films of the 80s nor is it one of my favorites from John Carpenter, but despite some lackluster character development and a plot that feels a bit disjointed, ignoring all of that makes for a fun flick.

Live Nude Girls, from my perspective, seems to be a predecessor to “Sex in the City” with a lot of girl talk and girl drama. I wasn’t a big fan of the movie but realize it has a core set of fans which makes this Blu-ray release to be somewhat popular to that segment. The disc itself has a fine video transfer, if nothing incredible, while the audio also is only above average.

The Bonfire of the Vanities was a critical and financial flop when it was released back in 1990 and considering its cast with Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis, it should have been better. For me, I don’t think it was that bad though I’ve never read the novel it was based upon so taking at face value, it’s at least an average, and biting, satirical drama-comedy.

Meet Monica Velour is an uneven film between a story that never quite gels and a central character seemingly taken directly (at least in the looks department) from Napoleon Dynamite but still a worthwhile venture just for Kim Cattrall’s great performance. The Blu-ray has above average audio and video and although there’s only a handful of deleted scenes, the commentary more than makes up for the lack of features.
