Shadow Stalkers DVD

This Shadow Stalkers set is filled with mostly suspense/thriller-horror movies, much not very well known (at least to me) and a couple (Don’t Answer the Phone and Silent Night, Bloody Night) were previously released in another set (“Faces of Horror”) in my own collection.

Drag Me to Hell: Collector’s Edition BD + Screen Caps

Drag Me to Hell might not be as good as Raimi’s Evil Dead Trilogy but still hell of a fun time with some truly laugh-out-loud scenes and good performances by Alison Lohman, Justin Long and even David Paymer in a small role.

10 Cloverfield Lane + BD Screen Caps

10 Cloverfield Lane is a strong sci-fi thriller that, even though it’s been many years since I last saw it, equals the original and had the added bonus of not being in the found footage style and features better characters. I’m not sure how well this will hold up in the long run however but at the moment I found it to be thoroughly entertaining.

Cloverfield 4K Ultra HD Review

Cloverfield has held up pretty well since the (nearly) 10 years since its release. Sure, the dialogue isn’t the sharpest and T.J. Miller got on my nerves, but the suspense is well done and there was some actual emotional resonance with these characters.

Geostorm BD + Screen Caps

Geostorm was rightfully basically in-and-out in theaters, domestically anyway since it did do okay overseas, as the script and dialogue was downright awful and even the normally charismatic Gerard Butler couldn’t help, same going for the supporting cast.

Gangster Land BD + Screen Caps

If Gangster Land isn’t enough of a lackluster title, the movie is equally uninspiring gangster film that features some recognizable actors but none are exactly believable in their respective roles not to mention some questionable accents. This is just one of hundreds of direct-to-video films that will get lost in the shuffle.

Cook Off! BD + Screen Caps

Cook Off is a movie that should’ve remained on the shelf in some darkened room to collect dust and likely only saw the light of day, 10 years later, due to Melissa McCarthy but even on that account, it is saying something this still took 6 years after her star-making movie, Bridesmaids.

Shakedown BD + Screen Caps

Shakedown is a flawed but still entertaining 1988 action-thriller that excels more on the ridiculousness of some of the action, particularly the finale, and its stars Peter Weller and Sam Elliott.

Inception 4K + BD Screen Caps

Inception might be my favorite Christopher Nolan film, or at least right there with The Dark Knight and Interstellar. The film features some well done performances and groundbreaking visual effects and storytelling that despite the eight years since its release, still holds up incredibly well.

Jigsaw BD + Screen Caps

Jigsaw is an okay enough entry/soft reboot to the enduring franchise and while there wasn’t anything all that memorable, I can’t say I hated it and at the very least they balanced the thriller aspects that made the original so great with the blood and gore horror fans love.

It (2017) 4K/BD + BD Screen Caps

It might’ve been a worldwide box office phenomenon raking in $700M and frightened audiences but for myself I can’t say I was once terrified and actually became a bit more annoyed with the jump scares more than anything. However, the movie is worth watching if only for the impressive young cast.

The LEGO® NINJAGO® Movie 4K + BD Screen Caps

The LEGO® NINJAGO® Movie is by far the weakest of the LEGO® franchise be it theatrical or direct-to-video as the humor doesn’t really work and it’s just a bland animated flick that might appeal to a younger audience.

Review: S.W.A.T.: Special Edition BD

S.W.A.T. was a fun action-adventure flick primarily due to the cast rather than the story which does plod along at a slow pace and really takes time to get into the meat of the plot.
