Scarecrows isn’t a great supernatural horror but it has its moments with a few impressive make-up effects and a well rounded cast of scumbags to get their comeuppance. The Blu-ray released by Scream Factory is fairly impressive with decent to fair video/audio transfers and a decent selection of bonus material.

THE MOVIE
After a band of ex-military criminals pulls off a multimillion dollar heist, they hop aboard a plane headed for Mexico. But when one of their own betrays them, they suddenly find themselves on the ground and on the run through a field of scarecrows near an abandoned farmhouse. And as night sets in, the real nightmare begins. The men discover that there’s a reason the farmhouse is empty… and now those who thought they were the hunters are being hunted by an unimaginable and malevolent force!

As with many Scream Factory releases, this one comes with a reversible cover with the original poster artwork for the front.
Audio Commentaries – The disc comes with two commentaries, the first with Director William Wesley and Producer Cami Winikoff, moderated by Rob Galluzzo; and the second, new and exclusive to this release, with co-screenwriter Richard Jefferies, Director of Photographer Peter Deming and Composer Terry Plumeri with Micheal Felsher serving as host and moderator.
The Last Straw (16:35; HD) is an interview with Norman Cabrera, the film’s special make-up effects creator. Cabrera gives us his background and working on a shoestring budget.
Cornfield Commando (8:46; HD) – Actor Ted Vernon gives his account on working on the movie.
Also includes the Original Storyboards (3:48; HD), a Still Gallery (5:12; HD) and the Theatrical Trailer (1:32; HD).
VIDEO – 3.0/5
Shout releases Scarecrows via their Scream Factory line presented in its original 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture quality is a bit mixed with decent enough detail levels in some spots but others, especially dimly lit scenes, is littered with heavy noise. Colors at least appear to be well balanced and not oversaturated.
AUDIO – 3.5/5
The movie comes with the choice of either the 5.1 or 2.0 channel DTS-HD Master Audio tracks and either one is rather good all things considered. The 5.1 track offers a bit more depth especially when it came to gunfire and the other action-centric scenes while both offers good detail levels throughout.
OVERALL – 3.0/5
