Life Partners isn’t a great movie but succeeds thanks to its cast, Leighton Meester and Gillian Jacobs in particular who have great chemistry together; it’s also a breezy film never overstaying its welcome.

THE MOVIE

At 29, the most long-term relationship Sasha (LEIGHTON MEESTER) and Paige (JILLIAN JACOBS) have ever been in is with each other, using their co-dependent friendship as an excuse not to venture out into the dating world alone. But when Paige meets Tim (ADAM BRODY) and starts to get serious for the first time, the nature of their friendship begins to shift. Fearing she’s being cast aside, Sasha tries to keep their relationship the same, but does growing up also mean growing apart?

SPECIAL FEATURES – 1.75/5

Behind the Scenes: Cast & Characters (2:30; HD) is a thin featurette with EPK-like sound-bites from the cast as they talk about their characters.

Behind the Scenes: Production & Costume Design (4:46; HD) is more of the same and really has little to offer.

AXS TV: A Look at Life Partners (2:32; HD) – Here we get some on-location interviews mixed in with scenes from the movie. Like the previous two, you don’t get much of info.

Trailer (2:01; HD)

BD-Live – For whatever reason, Magnolia still has a portal to their online page but it’s not even worth checking out.

VIDEO – 4.0/5

Life Partners arrives on Blu-ray through Magnolia Home Entertainment and the 1080p high-definition transfer – and a 2.40 widescreen aspect ratio – looks good providing for sharp detail levels and bright/cheerful colors throughout. It’s not something that pops off the screen or anything but it is a clean transfer.

AUDIO – 3.25/5

The 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track provided is kind of disappointing even for a drama-comedy. The bulk of the movie is of course dialogue driven and for the most part that aspect is fine yet still a bit on the softer side. That also goes for the limited ambient noises as well as the soundtrack/score. It’s nothing horrible and perfectly acceptable but for a recent release, I did expect better.

OVERALL – 3.0/5

Overall, Life Partners isn’t a great movie but succeeds thanks to its cast, Leighton Meester and Gillian Jacobs in particular who have great chemistry together; it’s also a breezy film never overstaying its welcome. The Blu-ray released by Magnolia is very basic between the fluff featurettes to so-so audio and half-decent video transfers.
