Exterminators of the Year 3000 is a cheesy, bad but ultimately harmless clone of Mad Max. The production values are cheap, the synthesized music harsh on the ears and the acting is nothing amazing either. The Blu-ray released by Shout Factory is actually relatively weak, though considering the limited audiences, not altogether surprising.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

In a post-apocalyptic future where the earth is a desert and water is the most precious substance of all, a band of survivors must turn to a mysterious stranger to battle a ruthless gang of motorcycle psychos for control of the wasteland and the water.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 1.75/5

Not much here but we do get an Audio Commentary with Actor Robert Iannucci, an Interview (17:43; HD) with Iannucci, a Trailer (3:51; HD) and some TV Spots (0:43; HD).

VIDEO – 3.0/5

Shout Factory, visa vi their Scream Factory line, releases Exterminators of the Year 3000 shown with a 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. It should be noted this was a low budget affair and, from what I could see online, it looked absolutely horrible so it’s not surprising that this one might not look fantastic. For instance, detail levels is limited where some close-ups look OK but more distant shots are fuzzy. Noise is fairly heavy and it does have an all around splotchy texture. Colors meanwhile are tame and toned down though it is in keeping with the apocalyptic setting.

AUDIO – 4.0/5

The DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track, on the other hand, sounds better. Dialogue generally is clear and the more action-centric scenes do come through fairly well. The lossless track doesn’t have any noticeable hissing or other ailments though as with the video, it is limited.

OVERALL – 2.0/5

Overall, Exterminators of the Year 3000 is a cheesy, bad but ultimately harmless clone of Mad Max. The production values are cheap, the synthesized music harsh on the ears and the acting is nothing amazing either. The Blu-ray released by Shout Factory is actually relatively weak, though considering the limited audiences, not altogether surprising.
