Live Nude Girls, from my perspective, seems to be a predecessor to “Sex in the City” with a lot of girl talk and girl drama. I wasn’t a big fan of the movie but realize it has a core set of fans which makes this Blu-ray release to be somewhat popular to that segment.

THE MOVIE

Outline: Georgina (LORA ZANE) throws a sleepover party celebrating one of her friend’s upcoming wedding. The quests are all Georgina’s childhood friends: estranged sisters Jill (DANA DELANY) and Rachel (LAILA ROBINS), the still innocent girl-next-door Marcy (CYNTHIA STEVENSON) and of course the guest of honor Jamie (KIM CATTRALL), a modestly successful B-movie actress. They laugh and cry and reminisce about the good old days while sharing new secrets with old friends. Also included is Chris (OLIVIA D’ABO), Georgina’s live-in lover who wants to bring her relationship with Georgina back from the brink.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0/5

Unfortunately no features were included.

VIDEO – 3.5/5

Olive Films releases Live Nude Girls on Blu-ray for the first time presented with a 1.78 widescreen transfer and in 1080p high-definition. As with most of these licensed out catalog titles, this one doesn’t exactly look fantastic but given it’s relatively low budget and the fact it’s closing in 20 years old, I didn’t think the picture looked half bad. The colors might not be vibrant but they seem well balanced and hardly drab.

AUDIO – 3.75/5

Not entirely a pristine lossless track, the 2-channel DTS-HD Master Audio track is more than effective for the genre of film this is, which is, of course, 99% dialogue driven. There’s really little other elements to judge making for something that doesn’t really benefit from an HD audio upgrade yet for fans of the movie, they’ll be satisfied that it does get more than a mono track…

OVERALL – 2.0/5

Overall, Live Nude Girls, from my perspective, seems to be a predecessor to “Sex in the City” with a lot of girl talk and girl drama. I wasn’t a big fan of the movie but realize it has a core set of fans which makes this Blu-ray release to be somewhat popular to that segment. The disc itself has a fine video transfer, if nothing incredible, while the audio also is only above average. Unfortunately there are no features and it would’ve been nice to have some sort of retrospective/reunion featurette with this cast as well as its writer/director, Julianna Lavin who made this her first and only film.
