Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman is a charming show that probably newer generations may not appreciate as it has quintessential 1990s style and is cheesy, but I had a lot of fun re-watching with Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher having great chemistry.

Synopsis: Share the soaring adventure and romantic fun as Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher star in this romantic action/adventure series with comedic overtones. Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman gave the time-honored, legendary superhero a ‘90s twist over the course of four seasons. Quick Hit Review: Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman is a show that I watched when it initially aired on ABC back in 1993 through its four season run. However, I hadn’t really seen it since save for an episode or two either in syndication or on DVD, but even then it’s been several years. In re-watching it’s for sure cheesy and not terribly well acted at times, however I did immensely enjoyed the chemistry between Cain and Hatcher and even liked John Shea’s portrayal as a Lex Luthor with a full head of hair. On the whole, while it’s hardly perfect and yes a product of the early to mid 90s, I had a blast re-watching and if I had one word for the series it would be absolutely charming. It’s just a whole lot of fun and honors the Superman legacy while putting its own spin, plus it’s a palette cleanser, be it with the writing or special effects, from the atrocious Superman IV which came out only 6 years prior. The show also gives a wink and a nod to some of the more ridiculous things such as the whole glasses thing which I found amusing. Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman is an all-around fun time and an innocent series with so much sincerity in what is now a more cynical world. |

VIDEO – 4¼/5 |
Warner Bros. releases Lois & Clark onto Blu-ray for the first time and is presented here in its original 1.33 full frame aspect ratio as originally televised. While it does certainly have the look of a 1990s production, the picture does look fairly good with nice detail and colors vibrant without being oversaturated, with the blues and reds in Superman’s costume standing out the most. As I no long have my DVD set, I can’t compare the two however I can only think this is a marked improvement. |
AUDIO – 3¾/5 |
Each episode comes with a standard but adequate DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Stereo track which outputs clear dialogue and some, for the time and age of the source material, decent enough depth for scenes that had an action punch to them. |
