PLOT SYNOPSIS

Bright young lieutenants Jeb Stuart (ERROL FLYNN) and George Armstrong Custer (RONALD REAGAN) are assigned to Kansas Territory to guard the Santa Fe Trail. There, they clash with the fanatical abolitionist John Brown (RAYMOND MASSEY). On a more romantic side, they also vie for the hand of ‘Kit Carson’ Holliday (OLIVIA DE HAVILLAND). But the pursuit of Brown leads the army to the pivotal battle at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, which strikes the spark that hastens the Civil War.

SPECIAL FEATURES – ½/5

There is only the Theatrical Trailer included.

VIDEO – 4¾/5, AUDIO – 4/5

Santa Fe Trail comes to Blu-ray courtesy of Warner Bros. through their Archive Collection line. I’m not entirely sure if this is a new transfer however the 1080p high-definition picture looks excellent, detail si sharp and the black and white presentation has nice contrast. I did not notice any significant instances of aliasing, artifacting, specs or other major flaws.

The disc is equipped with a standard DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono track which is more than effective for a movie like this. Dialogue comes through with good clarity and there is some modest depth for a movie going on 80 years old.
