PLOT SYNOPSIS |
After years of suffering deadly reviews, hammy Shakespearean actor Edward Lionheart (VINCENT PRICE) decides it’s curtains for his critics. Bumping off his detractors with execution inspired by the Bard, Lionheart stages a beheading in the manner of Cymbeline, a stabbing by Julius Ceasar and even an untimely removal of a pound of flesh improvised from The Merchant of Venice – proving once and for all that all the world really is a stage… for murder! |
SPECIAL FEATURES – 3/5 |
This release comes with a matted slip cover and the inner sleeve is reversible with the film’s original poster artwork. Audio Commentaries:
Both give historical information on the production and although I prefer tracks with more than one participant, the first with Spencer isn’t too bad as he gives a perspective as a filmmaker while the second is like a lecture. Also included is Trailers from Hell (3:33) with Spencer, a few TV & Radio Spots and the Theatrical Trailer (2:31). |
VIDEO – 4/5 |
This is another Kino Lorber release that was previously released by Twilight Time, this from 2016. It’s highly probable that this is the same exact transfer which isn’t a completely bad thing, detail on this looks good, as does black levels which appear stark without seemingly crushed. |
AUDIO – 3¾/5 |
The disc includes a fine DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 track which does provide for some clean and clear dialogue throughout and some modest depth here and there. Nothing amazing here but all things considered, for a nearly 50 year old film, it’s a solid lossless track. |
