PLOT SYNOPSIS

The Communist People’s Party makes life difficult for mission priests Rev. O’Banion (WILLIAM HOLDEN) and Rev. Bovard (CLIFTON WEBB) in 1940s China. The cook for their mission, young local Siu Lan (FRANCE NUYEN), is in love with O’Banion, but her innocence is lost when the communist forces of leader Ho San (Weaver Lee) raid and decimate the mission. Ho San continues to persecute the priests, but struggles with his communist ideology when he receives disturbing orders from his leaders.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0.5/5

This comes with an 8-page booklet and the Original Theatrical Trailer.

VIDEO – 4.25/5, AUDIO – 3.75/5

Satan Never Sleeps  comes to Blu-ray through Twilight Time and is presented in its original 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. Was pretty impressed with the picture, detail was decent and colors were fairly bright. The included DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 (and a 1.0) track where dialogue levels were crisp and clean and there were no apparent hisses or pops.

OVERALL – 2.75/5

Overall, Satan Never Sleeps is an odd little history-drama especially with some of the humor inserted, but the story is fairly compelling and the performance by William Holden was, as always, wonderfully charismatic. The Blu-ray has good video and audio but virtually no features.
