Teen Titans Go! To the Movies is a well done if not kind of pointless adaptation of a series that’s still on the air. Even so, the in-jokes is what carried it for me more so than the humor, voice acting or the animation itself, which I’ve never been a big fan of.

The opinions I share are my own.

THE MOVIE — 3.25/5

Plot Synopsis: It seems to the Teen Titans — Robin (SCOTT MENVILLE), Starfire (HYNDEN WALCH), Raven (TARA STRONG), Beast Boy (GREG CIPES) and Cyborg (KHARY PAYTON) — that all the major superheroes out there are starring in their own movies everyone but the Teen Titans, that is! But de facto leader Robin is determined to remedy the situation, and be seen as a star instead of a sidekick. If only they could get the hottest Hollywood film director to notice them. With a few madcap ideas and a song in their heart, the Teen Titans head to Tinsel Town, certain to pull off their dream. But when the group is radically misdirected by a seriously super villain, Slaaaadeee (WILL ARNETT), and his maniacal plan to take over the Earth, things really go awry. The team finds their friendship and their fighting spirit failing, putting the very fate of the Teen Titans themselves on the line!

Quick Hit Review: Although I am a DC fan, the Teen Titans Go television series was never really my type of show both in terms of the animation style and the humor. So going in, my expectations for Teen Titans Go! To the Movies were on the low side and as such, I found it enjoyable if not on the forgettable side. But the humor was often funny and did enjoy the satirical take on the superhero genre as well as some cool DC easter eggs and various voice cameos such as Nicolas Cage finally getting his opportunity to play Superman.

So, in the end I was mildly entertained by Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, although considering the series is still on the air with Cartoon Network and had received home video releases, I’m not entirely sure this feature film was necessary and might’ve been better off as a direct-to-video feature, even if the film managed to make a hair under $60 million off of a reported $10 million budget, so likely Warner received a tiny profit. It’s a fun enough little film and I would think kids might get even more enjoyment, or fans of the series, out of it than I did.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 1.5/5

This release comes with a shiny and title-embossed slip cover. Inside is a redemption code for the Digital HD copy.

Music Video (2:09) for Little Yachy’s ‘Go’

Silkie Sing-Alongs for a few of the songs featured in the movie.

DC Super Hero Girls: The Late Batsby (4:14) animated short film that played before TTGTM.

Red Carpet Mayhem (2:10) is a promo feature.

Teen Titans Go!: WB Lot Shenanigans (3:56) is a comedic skit with people dressed in Titans costumes causing havoc at Warner’s tour shops.

Everything is Fake (0:51) is merely a cut song. Thank god.

Teen Titans Go! Translated (2:18) – Ugh. Just various lines done in different languages.

Last we get a couple Storyboard Animatics.

VIDEO – 4.5/5

Teen Titans Go to the Movies arrives on the red carpet and onto Blu-ray presented with a 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer (AVC codec). Not a big surprise here, but this does deliver in high-definition with brilliantly bright colors throughout and while it might’ve been present, I did not immediately notice any signs of banding.

AUDIO – 4.0/5

The included DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track is perfectly satisfactory outputting good dialogue levels along with some modest depth for the various action sequences, though it kind of lacks that extra punch in a couple instances, like an explosion.

OVERALL – 2.75/5

Overall, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies is a well done if not kind of pointless adaptation of a series that’s still on the air. Even so, the in-jokes is what carried it for me more so than the humor, voice acting or the animation itself, which I’ve never been a big fan of. This Blu-ray is lackluster in terms of a set of lame features, though the video/audio transfers were well done.
