Full Moon High was the lesser of the teen werewolf movies that spawned out of the 1980s, taking a backseat to Michael J. Fox’s Teen Wolf, which was released four years later. Even so, there were a few humorous moments and Alan Arkin did a fun job in the lead.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

The most important thing to quarterback Tony Walker (ADAM ARKIN) is to win the big game against archrival Simpson High. But this plan soon changes when Tony is bitten by a werewolf – and that’s when things really start to get hairy! Now, whenever there’s a full moon, he transforms into a growling beast that hungrily chases down beautiful girls. Cursed to live forever as a teenager with uncontrollable urges, Tony realizes he must find a way to end this cycle of animalistic excess.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 1.0/5

Features are on the lighter side, but included is an amiable Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Larry Cohen and King Cohen Filmmaker Steve Mitchell; and the Theatrical Trailer (2:58; HD).

VIDEO – 3.5/5, AUDIO – 3.0/5

Full Moon High is presented with a 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer which does look decent, though I did notice a few minor specs here and there. Still, detail was pretty good and colors were bright enough without appearing bolstered.

The included DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track is certainly… loud, I actually had to adjust the volume down as this track did tend to top out a few times. I don’t know if this had something to do with the sound design or the transfer, but once getting the volume right, I did find the dialogue was clear and the music does also encompass the central channel.

OVERALL – 2.5/5

Overall, Full Moon High was the lesser of the teen werewolf movies that spawned out of the 1980s, taking a backseat to Michael J. Fox’s Teen Wolf, which was released four years later. Even so, there were a few humorous moments and Alan Arkin did a fun job in the lead.
