Shameless is the kind of show I can kind lose interest but find my way back every so often, mainly because William H. Macy is so damn good as the reckless loveable loser and the supporting cast all do quite well in their respective roles.

SEASON SYNOPSIS

When Frank (WILLIAM H. MACY) awakens from a coma to learn that his loved ones tossed him in the drink, he declares war — and finds himself a new family, Fiona (EMMY ROSSUM) decides that nothing will stand in the way of her upwardly mobile destiny — including her siblings. Golden boy Lip (JEREMY ALLEN WHITE) emerges from rehab with a grim vision of his future, whereas the once-unstable Ian now thrives. Debbie (EMMA KENNEY) is learning how to be a mom, and Carl (ETHAN CUTKOSKY) faces big decisions as he enters manhood. Will Frank’s new Gallaghers replace the old ones for good? Will the real Gallaghers fall apart without Fiona to pick up the pieces?

SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.25/5

This two-disc release comes housed in a standard Blu-ray case and side-slides into a slip cover. The features are a bit limited with Growing Up Shameless (13:46; HD) and The Shameless Politics of Frank (2:21; HD) featurettes which has interviews with the cast and crew discussing the younger actors as well as Macy’s character; and some Unaired Scenes on 10 out of the 12 episodes.

VIDEO – 4.0/5

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment releases Shameless: The Complete Seventh Season presented in its originally televised 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture looks rather sharp and colors are bright and probably on par with how it aired on Showtime.

AUDIO – 4.0/5

Similarly, the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, while nothing fantastic, is more than satisfactory especially for a series that is mainly dialogue driven with only modest depth for the score/soundtrack as well as ambient/background noises.

OVERALL – 3.5/5

Overall, Shameless is the kind of show I can kind lose interest but find my way back every so often, mainly because William H. Macy is so damn good as the reckless loveable loser and the supporting cast all do quite well in their respective roles. The Blu-ray release offers good video/audio transfers with some so-so features.
