PLOT SYNOPSIS

Newlywed Ann Garroway (KATHARINE HEPBURN) is blinded by happiness. Maybe her sudden entry into the Washington elite makes her unable to see the true nature of her husband (ROBERT TAYLOR). She overlooks the menace that creeps into his words and pays no mind when domestic animals seem fearful in his presence. And she trusts him when he says his mysterious, long-unseen brother (ROBERT MITCHUM) is a psychopath.

This comes with Traffic with the Devil short film, Lonesome Lenny classic cartoon and the Theatrical Trailer. Not bad, but would’ve been nice to have a commentary from a film historian.

 

VIDEO – 3.0/5, AUDIO – 3.0/5

Undercurrent makes its way to DVD from Warner Archive presented with a 1.33 full frame aspect ratio and given a Dolby Digital 1.0 track. Neither are particularly amazing as the video is littered with scratches while there were some hisses in the audio, but being a classic, it is nice to have this release.

OVERALL – 3.5/5

Overall, Undercurrent is a well done 1940s film noir showcasing the talents of Katharine Hepburn and Robert Taylor combined with a tense-filled story. The DVD release offers up fine video/audio and is light on the features.
