A well made movie from Todd Haynes, finely adapted from Patricia Highsmith’s best-selling novel, Carol features strong performances by Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, which really propels the plot and makes it so engaging from beginning to end.

PLOT SYNOPSIS |
| A young woman in her 20s, Therese Belivet (ROONEY MARA), is a clerk working in a Manhattan department store and dreaming of a more fulfilling life when she meets Carol (CATE BLANCHETT), an alluring woman trapped in a loveless, convenient marriage. As an immediate connection sparks between them, the innocence of their first encounter dims and their connection deepens. While Carol breaks free from the confines of marriage, her husband (KYLE CHANDLER) begins to question her competence as a mother as her involvement with Therese and close relationship with her best friend Abby (SARAH PAULSON) come to light. |

| Anchor Bay releases Carol onto Blu-ray presented in its original 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. The movie itself is generally warm in tone with colors geared more towards orange and brown hues though there are splashes here and there and detail is by and large sharp. It’s nothing I’d say is reference quality but there is a richness and refinement that is common with Todd Haynes’s films. |
AUDIO – 4.25/5 |
| The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track is pretty basic but serviceable. The bulk of the audio is dialogue-driven which is crisp and clean throughout with any depth being provided by long-time and veteran composer, Carter Burwell, which is a beautiful yet haunting score. There is some ambient noises, like sounds from the streets or in a restaurant, that resonates through the rear channels nicely enough. |
