Sibling Rivalry is a quirky fun, if not also forgettable, 1990s comedy with a semi-impressive cast of who’s who of that era. While the plot doesn’t work and performances that aren’t always the best, it’s still one of those watchable flicks that you probably won’t regret afterward yet have little interest in re-visiting anytime soon.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

Marjorie Turner (KIRSTIE ALLEY) is the dissatisfied wife of Harry Turner (SCOTT BAKULA), a workaholic doctor more invested in medical charts than his beautiful wife. Encouraged by her sister (JAMI GERTZ) that an affair might be just the thing to break the monotony, a clandestine tryst with a handsome stranger (SAM ELLIOTT) ends on a low note when he dies from a heart attack.

The twists and turns are just beginning when hotel guest Nicholas Meany (BILL PULLMAN) who thinks that he may have accidentally killed said stranger looks to Marjorie for help after finding her driver’s license at the scene of the crime.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0.5/5

The only feature included is the Theatrical Trailer (1:37; HD).

VIDEO – 3.75/5

Sibling Rivalry arrives on Blu-ray presented with a 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer (MPEG-4 AVC codec). Although this primarily does look good with nice detail, the colors are a bit heavy at times and appear oversaturated. I don’t know if that’s how it was filmed, though that’s where I’m leaning, or with the transfer but it’s not the prettiest looking transfer I’ve seen. There were also some minor instances of dust marks but nothing overly distracting so it’s a fine transfer with its flaws.

AUDIO – 4.0/5

The movie comes with a standard but still well done DTS-HD Master Audio Stereo track which, for a crime-comedy, is more than adequate with crisp and clear dialogue levels throughout with the score giving a slight extra boost and depth. It’s nothing extraordinary but still above average for a niche movie going on 25+ years…

OVERALL – 2.5/5

Overall, Sibling Rivalry is a quirky fun, if not also forgettable, 1990s comedy with a semi-impressive cast of who’s who of that era. While the plot doesn’t work and performances that aren’t always the best, it’s still one of those watchable flicks that you probably won’t regret afterward yet have little interest in re-visiting anytime soon. The Blu-ray released through Olive Films, the special features are basically non-existent while the video and audio transfers are sufficient enough.
