A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy isn’t a very well known Woody Allen film and although it pales in comparison with Manhattan and Annie Hall, lacking the same charm, even quirky by comparison, I wasn’t quite enamored with this movie as some though the performances by the supporting cast were quite good to go along with Allen’s typically eccentric nature.

PLOT SYNOPSIS
Woody Allen’s whimsical confection, A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy, is a period-style romantic roundelay set in and around a stunning—and possibly magical–country house. The film focuses on a nutty inventor (WOODY ALLEN), his frustrated wife (MARY STEENBURGEN), a philosopher cousin (JOSE FERRER), his much younger fiancée (MIA FARROW), a randy doctor (TONY ROBERTS), and a free-thinking nurse (JULIE HAGERTY)—the possibilities, of course, are endless.
SPECIAL FEATURES – 0.5/5
This release comes with a 6-page Essay Booklet. Unfortunately but not surprisingly, it’s light on features and includes a Theatrical Trailer (1:19; SD).
VIDEO – 4.0/5
A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Twilight Time presented in its original 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and shown with a 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture quality actually isn’t half bad with decent to good detail levels while colors seem to be well balanced throughout. It’s not the cleanest transfer with the occasional specs that would crop up every so often and some scenes show heavy grain especially noticeable in the darkly lit shots.
AUDIO – 4.0/5
The DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0 track is surprisingly vigorous with strong dialogue levels throughout while ambient noises give the solo channel some depth, even if limited. Also available is stereo DTS-HD MA track outputting the sound effects and soundtrack.
OVERALL – 3.5/5
Overall, A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy isn’t a very well known Woody Allen film and although it pales in comparison with Manhattan and Annie Hall, lacking the same charm, even quirky by comparison, I wasn’t quite enamored with this movie as some though the performances by the supporting cast were quite good to go along with Allen’s typically eccentric nature. The Blu-ray released by Twilight Time offers good video/audio transfers while the bonus features were basically non-existent unfortunately.
