PLOT SYNOPSIS

On the surface, Le Mepris is about a director (MICHEL PICCOLI) whose wife Camille (BRIGITTE BARDOT) falls out of love with him while he rewrites an adaptation of Homer’s “The Odyssey” for an American producer (JACK PALANCE). But underneath this tale of a doomed romance lies director Jean-Luc Godard’s true subject: the commercial film industry, which he skewers.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 1/5

The only feature is an Introduction by Colin MacCabe. Also inside is a Digital HD copy.

VIDEO – 4¾/5

Released by Lionsgate, Le Mepris is presented here in its original 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 2160p high-definition transfer. Although the back cover doesn’t mention anything on any sort of restoration presumably this was provided as-is, but even so, the picture does look phenomenal with sharp, well defined, detail throughout while colors are evenly balanced with some nice vibrancy.

AUDIO – 4¼/5

The included DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono track outputs clear and crisp dialogue levels with some okay depth for ambient noises while also no major signs of pops or hissing making for a clear lossless track.
