Hi-Death is an anthology movie that has many of the pratfalls of others where most of the segments are garbage with one or maybe two having some value but here even the ones were decent, it’s cancelled out due to the cheap looking production.

PLOT SYNOPSIS
|
From the makers of “Hi-8”, five all-new stories for the digital age. When two young women take the “Terror Tour” through the underbelly of Hollywood, they are led into a bizarre world of unspeakable horror, unraveling twisted and terrifying tales from the minds of both up and coming seasoned independent horror directors.
Their first stop proves that “Death Has a Conscience”, but doesn’t spare the unlucky souls who stumble into his path. Next, a meeting with the “Dealers of Death” exposes the perils of collecting murder memorabilia. Then, it’s off to a quick “Night Drop”, where your next movie rental may be your last. An actress’ worst nightmare unfolds as she is forced to perform a terrifying “Cold Read”, and our Terror Tour comes to a disturbing end as we meet the ancient, seductive evil known as “The Muse”. |
SPECIAL FEATURES – 3.0/5 |
Nice surprise that this does come with some decent features. First are two Audio Commentaries, the first with Executive Producers Brad Sykes, Josephina Sykes and Supervising Editor Chris Lorusso, and the second with all five directors as well as some cast and crew members; also included is Anatomy of a Scream (16:45) behind-the-scenes featurette, Teaser Trailer (0:33), Official Trailer (0:58) and Original Trailer (1:24) is also included. |
VIDEO – 2.5/5, AUDIO – 2.25/5

This movie at times looks like it was shot with an iPhone because it does have a cheap look to it, even by independent horror standards. During the in-between scenes, the picture sometimes looks blown out while the segments themselves look a little better, but not much. The Dolby Digital 2.0 track was utterly overbearing to the point I had to lower the volume; it’s extremely loud and shows off some hissing thanks to the lower-end scaled recording equipment. |
OVERALL – 2.5/5 |
Hi-Death is an anthology movie that has many of the pratfalls of others where most of the segments are garbage with one or maybe two having some value but here even the ones that had halfway decent stories, it’s cancelled out due to the cheap looking production. The DVD has questionable video and audio transfers but it is nice to get some bonus material. |
