Steve McQueen is probably my favorite ‘old school’ Hollywood superstars and while I don’t think Baby the Rain Must Fall is one of his better movies but he does deliver a brilliant performance.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

Henry Thomas (STEVE MCQUEEN), a singer and guitarist in a rock band, is on parole for a violent crime. Henry’s wife, Georgette (LEE REMICK), and daughter, Margaret Rose (KIMBERLY BLOCK), travel to Texas to be with him as he attempts to repair his relationships and put his life back together. Henry’s overbearing foster mother, Kate Dawson, doesn’t approve of Henry’s musical aspirations and uses the terms of his parole to force him to comply with her wishes.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0.5/5

This comes with an 8-page booklet. The only feature included is the Original Theatrical Trailer (3:10).

VIDEO – 4.5/5, AUDIO – 3.75/5

Twilight Time releases Baby the Rain Must Fall is shown in its original 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer. The distributor likely received the transfer through the right’s holder, Sony, but I will say this does look brilliant. The black and white presentation shows off good shadows, blacks themselves appear stark without being crushed and whites weren’t blaring or washed out. The natural film grain has been left intact aiding to the sharp detail.

The movie comes with a DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track which does output through the center channel clear dialogue levels; this is an all around clean lossless track with no real apparent hissing or pops.

OVERALL – 3.5/5

Steve McQueen is probably my favorite ‘old school’ Hollywood superstars and while I don’t think Baby the Rain Must Fall is one of his better movies but he does deliver a brilliant performance. The Blu-ray release from Twilight Time has impressive video and audio transfers but sadly nothing in the way of substantive features.
