PLOT SYNOPSIS

A study of a marriage – via a quartet of road trips stunningly photographed by Christopher Challis – the film focuses on a starry couple, indeed, incarnated by two actors at the height of their powers: Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney, joining forces in moments that vary from the hilarious to the brutal to the deeply poignant.

This release comes with an 8-page essay booklet. The features are a tad limited though we do get two Audio Commentaries, one with Film Historians Julie Kirgo and Nick Redman and the second featuring Director Stanley Donen. Also included is a Fox Movietone Newsreel (1:45; SD) and the Original Theatrical Trailer (2:17; SD).

 

VIDEO – 4.0/5

Two for the Road arrives on Blu-ray through Twilight Time presented with a 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio and given an AVC-encoded 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture looks quite good in HD with some bright colors and fine detail throughout. I didn’t notice any major instances of dust marks or scratches so it’s a pleasant looking transfer.

AUDIO – 3.75/5

The disc includes a DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0 track which, for a movie that is almost strictly dialogue driven, is adequate enough for what it is while Henry Mancini bouts through the channel with some moderate depth.

 

OVERALL – 2.75/5

Overall, Two for the Road is a charming little romantic drama featuring two charismatic leads in legendary actors Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney (when he didn’t mumble his lines like he had as of late). The Blu-ray from Twilight Time offers a pair of nice commentaries while the video and audio transfers are both above average.
